The concept was intriguing, the athmosphere was deliciously unsettling and the art was absolutely gorgeous. The artist and the colorist worked incredibly well together.

I really enjoyed the first half. It took time to establish the world and set the mood.

Unfortunately, the ending felt like reading a brief summary of the events. I wanted it to slow down.

Such a gorgeous and haunting graphic novel—the horror of it compounds as you read and discover what is truly happening in Shudder-to-Think. Strange and horrifying and I absolutely loved it.

I didn't know this book's horror was about sexual assault and I think it should be specified on the comic. I didn't like that the monsters were never explained and that all the plot was summed up in one volume. Also I'd like to add the fact that the art is really bad, it doesn't feel adequate for a comic like this one.
I ovehyped myself about these comics and I regret it.

There is only one thing worse than americans. It's american men.
There is this one series on tiktok, which is all about the shit that happens in small towns in the US and people get away with it (i will add the tiktok tag of the creator next time I see them) and this is kinda it.
The graphic novel looked beautiful, but I did find myself not really caring sometimes. However, it was still just so great, but I do not know if I can really explain it, just read it.

Notes:

Fuck the popcorn boy.

We love 90's and 80's settings for complete silence from police and government.

Curfew is a very weird reasoning behind not wanting to report a weird deer person thing.

I really get Ms. Kadet, it is natural to want you students to do well, but sometimes you forget something that prevents them and you end up hurting them.

The cemetary thing about bodies just falling into the abyss. It's so great.

What do you mean your grandpa just dug out an illegal entrance to the mine from his house?????

Of course women are punished for feeling happy, of course, nothing terrible on such a scale never happens to men.

The water thing is so cool.

The greek myth is so cool. (you can really see that i am just astonished by ideas in this story)

I cannot begin how angry I am about the men in the village. It is just a lot, okay?

I cannot blame the witch. She was angry and she was hurt and she did the only thing she could think of and in the end it brought something better, even tho she hurt people while trying to help.

The Low, Low Woods absolutely took my breath away. The setting of an old coal-mining town in poor, rural Pennsylvania was so well-chosen and so integral to the story. That aspect blew my mind. The art style is beautiful and haunting. El and Octavia are both compelling characters, and their main conflict makes sense and jives well with the rest of the plot.

The twist is heartbreaking, but I gasped as all the pieces clicked into place. Even though it is a fantastical story, it is incredibly REAL.

I loved this so much I'm almost incoherent. Go read it!

I felt like this graphic novel was written for me! Smithies, lesbians, supernatural, and meaningful female friendship!

never in my life has a piece of content and author felt so tailor made for me??? not to mention the amazing work that the illustrator dani does with the very visceral and specific descriptions of body horror.

i did not expect that reveal towards the end, but in retrospect, when you remove the supernatural elements it’s horrifyingly true to life.

i had some issues with the formatting of this but that is likely due to the fact that i don’t read comics.

the characters are fully realized within this very atmospheric world. if you can stomach the heavy topics and graphic but abstract imagery i would highly recommend this.
