I quite enjoyed this. But it seemed slower to start than the other books by this author that I've read in the past, and ended rather abruptly.

I loved Jane Lindskold's Firekeeper saga, so when I found this book I thought I'd give it a try. It starts out as straight historical fiction but diverts wildly towards the end, so if you're not a huge fantasy fan you probably won't appreciate those elements of the plot. I've read some reviews on here that described the characters as flat and one-dimentional, and I can sort of see how they could say that, but I still enjoyed the main protagonists and the often colorful supporting cast. What really kept me going was the pacing, this is a rolicking adventure from beginning to end that should keep you interested for most of it.

The Buried Pyramid mixes historical adventure and science/speculative fiction in a very weird way and could probably drop about 100 pages, but overall, I really enjoyed the book as a whole. Lindskold's writing is excellent, all of the characters are well-developed, and the experience of reading The Buried Pyramid was very fun.

Sadly, this is not the kind of book I've come to expect from Lindskold. The characters are extremely flat, the characters are rather stupid and the plot is predictable up until the point when it suddenly takes a left turn no one could have seen coming...

In quite the departure from her epic "Wolf" fantasies, Jane Lindkold crafts a fun and intelligent adventure set in Victorian-age Egypt. If you like the Brenden Frasier "Mummy" movies, you'll enjoy this book.
