Soooooo different from the rest of the books. It felt a bit anachronistic at times, and a lil hard to read in the beginning. Overall, a wonderful read and whilest I feel a little cliffhung, I am satisfied enough with the ending.

To be honest, I was enjoying this book until the end. I don't want to be mean but I feel like Sarah J Maas just continuously bites off more then she can chew, which leaves the endings feeling so anti-climatic and blah. I honestly grew to like Nesta as I relate to her anger, frustration, and responses to trauma, but I found Cassian boring as hell. There is nothing I really got from him as a character that could be copy and pasted from other characters like Rhys. It feels realistic that Nesta isn't 100% healed at the end, and that is where I can give Maas props for not magically healing her and instead staying true to character. Plus, her friendship with Gwyn and Emerie truly warmed my heart, especially in a series so focused on romantic relationships it is nice to see some strong female friendships.
Yet, somehow she cannot nail the Briallyn plot line or Feyre pregnancy. Everything is magically, literally, resolved with Nesta's powers, which to this point in the novel she never learned anything about or to control, but somehow it works perfectly in the end. Plus, the tension was ratcheting up to this big fight and it literally took one chapter. Instead, we got a ton of chapters on the Rite, which honestly was interesting but then slapped on the shittiest ending to these huge plot points she had been talking about the whole book.
I would truly read the first parts of these books again, sans the sex, and enjoy it but cannot forgive Maas for her inability to write a good ending to big plot points like in the third book. If you are a super fan of this book feel free to read this but if you like I like a well written book, skip this.

Definitely some needed character development in this book but I think some of the explicit content was wholly unnecessary.
