AHHH loved this and needed this! Ive been in the craziest reading slump and this really helped. The characters had such debth and I really felt connected to everyone despite spending so little time with each. I usually get turned off by books that force multiple stories onto me because I feel like they take away from the main characters or lack focus but with this.. I want to know more about every character.
The moment Eleanor got introduced I actively had to put the book down because I was so shocked by the change in writing style. Was she the narrator the whole time? I know shes a writer but this part confused and intrigued me. I still don't know the answer but this concept of changing perspectives for only a single character, which you would assume to be irrelevant is really cool. I was so upset about frank's behavior and I absolutely saw the divorce coming but it still me hit me like a brick when it happened.
This book encompasses the expereince of being a woman just trying to survive a shitty relationship so well and it really shows the cruel twists of fate. Would definetely recommend

A book written by a woman that felt like the male gaze with a group of dysfunctional pretentious New Yorkers who don’t care to solve their own problems

Each chapter was always engaging and didn’t have a dry/slow moment. You get to see different perspectives from different characters. Description details were easy to understand and imagine. After reading, I understand why this book became a best seller.

I really liked the range of perspectives we got and the third person omniscient narration. We got a lot of details about the side characters and their lives and internal struggles. You really care about them and root for them. I didn’t so much like Frank and Cleos relationship, especially because sometimes Franks descriptions of Cleo could get into infantilizing and creepy territory. It made me dislike him at times. Cleo was obviously beautiful, everyone commented on how beautiful she was. I felt bad for her toward the end of the book and could relate to some of her feelings. I liked the ending of the book.
