Wow. This book is painful, and powerful, and hopeful all rolled into one. I loved it.

I read this book when I was in the 4th grade, and I could still remember how much I cried while reading this book. I put down the book and just cried for five minutes, because her situation really hit home for me. Perhaps I rated this five stars because of the emotion it was able to trigger in me, but without bias, I would give this book 4.75 stars at best, which is pretty much a five. I do believe that it deserves five stars because Mah was able to tell her riveting story in an eloquent way.

I have read her other book, Falling Leaves which is more on her memoirs; and in my opinion, Chinese Cinderella is a stronger book compared to Falling Leaves. If ever you're going to choose between Chinese Cinderella and Falling Leaves, I'll go with CC.

Feel bad about the events in this book

We’ll, this book is not one I enjoyed, or could recommend. I think the author has a very clear voice. The story though was very sad, and just relentlessly sad. This isn’t a book for me, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a book for you.
