I would’ve liked the book better if it wasn’t spoiled for me, but it was still great! I think I prefer Six of Crows. It was still very good though!! I love all the characters and their dynamics together are amazing. It’s easier to understand the worldbuilding after reading the first book. It’s well written and immersive till the end. Love this series! Found family trope goes hard.

This is one of those books that I really enjoyed, and it's easily a five star, though I wouldn't say it's one of favorite books I've ever read, even though I gave it five stars.
Leigh Bardugo is just such a good writer, so good at developing characters, so good at weaving multiple plot points together...I couldn't not give it five stars.
I liked that we got to know more about the character's backstories in this one, and I'm glad Wylan got more page time. By the end I liked all six of the characters, whereas in the first book I was more neutral on Wylan simply because he wasn't a huge part of book one.
This book is definitely much more slow paced than the first one. Six of Crows had me on the edge of my seat in ways that few books have. This one was much more slower paced because it's not built up to a central plot point: a heist. In this one it's more about will they get their money from these corrupt merchants?
(Spoilers)
I'm sad that Matthias died. I figured one of them would have to, I just didn't know who. I honestly don't see why he had to die because the title is Six of Crows, and it just feels weird that they're now five.
Regardless, this is easily the best YA series I've read, and Leigh Bardugo is a master. I can't wait to read her adult novels, Ninth House and Hell Bent, to see how her voice changes, if at all, in those books.
Side note: I began this book in November, and it sat on my desk for well over a month, but I really read this in about three days. I stopped around page 70 in November, and read the rest over the past few days. It was a quick read even though it's over 500 pages!
