This was my first Rachel Abbott book and definitely will not be my last. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read this book for my honest opinion. This mystery is told through multiple points of view. Each person’s part in the murder mystery is written so well. This book was so intriguing and kept me hooked! I didn’t see the twist coming until just before it occurred. I give this book four out of five stars because there was just a teeny something missing but at this time I can’t adequately describe what that is exactly.

Nina and Lucas are getting marries at their home, in front of Lucas' friends. That is until someone is found dead.
A year on and Lucas has invited them all back to play a murder mystery game and relive that night. He wants to prove that one of them is a murderer. What secrets are they all hiding?
There was a lot of suspense in this and red herrings that lead you to the wrong person. I did guess who it was, but their reasons for it were quite shocking.

I couldn't put the book down, well my kindle but still. I read the entire thing in one sitting in multiple areas.
The clues that wer're dropped to figure out the initial crime were clever. Little pieces where I was thinking "AHA! I know who it is." The amount of layers and craziness that Rachel was able to put into this is what made it so enjoyable to read. Some of the smaller mysteries that were entangled with the dinner I would have never guessed. Then to throw a murder mystery dinner party to figure out the actual murderer a year later, for me at least it was very original. I appreciated all the characters and how they interacted even in insanity.
Poor Jemma though to not know these people at all and have to be thrown into every thing. It affecting her marriage and the amount of lies I would like to know though if she stays with Matt because there's a lot of love there but he left her majorly in the dark. I enjoyed how strong of a character she was, there was any "woe is me" from her.
Matt was a sly dog. That's about it he was the wimp but did show how much he cared about Jemma... at the end of the book.
Isabella pegged her from the moment that I learned what she did for a living and then in the pub so long ago.
Lucas/Rachel was a mastermind of a character you really got a feel for who he was perceived to be. The knowledge and thought he put into the envelopes and the digging that he did into his friends lives so that he could reveal the truth for his sister and too everyone else. Too prove to himself that he was going insane, I did wish we got to know his fiancee/Wife a bit better.
Dear Rachel Abbott,
I would like to request a series of short stores pretty please.
1. What happens to Gus and Stephanie.
2. Does Jemma decide to stay with Matt??
3. A little love story on Lucas and Nina.
4. What seedy things did Isabella squeeze her way out of.
5. A happy ending for Andrew and Chandra???

I really like how Abbott builds the scene and keeps me hooked on the plot. This was a very good page-turner, you just want to finish it and learn what happened. However, the twist was too obvious for me and I guessed it all right. Abbott’s way of wrapping up everything sometimes feels a bit rushed and sometimes a bit amateurish. She gets better with each and every book and I will keep reading the series. The story follows Jemma as she goes to a wedding with her husband Matt. The groom, Lucas, is Matt’s childhood friend, but right before the wedding the groom’s troubled sister is found dead on the beach. A year later, Lucas gathers the group once more to find out who the killer was despite the fact that the police stated it was a suicide.

Being part of an escape game is something fun and a way to connect with your friends, unless the organizer is ready to do anything to uncover the murder, even killing… Sounds mysterious and twisted? Oh yes, be prepared because that’s what you’ll find in this book, ready?
This is a story told in two parts, the past and the present; a year ago, a group of friends were reunited to celebrate the wedding of Lucas Jarrett and her fiancé, sadly, the reunion ended with a victim, Alex, Luca’s sister. Now, a year later, all the friends are reunited again to celebrate a year of Lucas marriage, but he has prepared a dangerous game to discover what really happened in the past. He knows all of his friends have secrets and lied in the past, now it’s time to reveal the truth to uncover who is the killer.
I’ll say from the beginning that I finished this book really quickly, the need to know the truth was so strong that I didn’t go to sleep till I finished the book. It was interesting and addictive, the story is told between different characters letting you know their thoughts and feelings, I liked that even if there were twists during the story, you didn’t feel betrayed that the characters were lying to you. Jemma, the main character is a trustworthy woman that doesn’t know what’s really happening and is scared that her marriage will never recover after this weekend. She will be the one that will mainly lead the story, trying to discover and understand the motive of what really happened in the past and why his husband changed so much during this last year, what has he been hiding?
I’ll admit that the author did an amazing job with the twists of the story, I predicted some of the surprises (the problem of reading so much!) but I liked how the story is told and how the police, DI Stephanie King, helps Jemma to discover the truth, they become part of the story without interrupting the atmosphere. I really can’t wait to read more about Stephanie, she is an ace!
The Murder Game is perfect to play an escape game without needing friends to help you with the hints, you only have to try to uncover the truth before it’s too late. Ready?
