To start off it was slightly slow but near the end it really picked up. The slowness near the beginning is the only reason that I gave it 4/5 stars The plot line is great along with some different HUGE plot twists that one would never see coming.
Needless to say, I'm glad that I don't have to wait for the second book to come out. I'm ready to dive right into it.

I cannot believe there are such bad reviews of this book!

I picked this book up because I work in a classroom with 4th and 5th graders. I definitely work with some reluctant readers, and I am always looking for new material I can pass on. I had this book sitting on my desk and almost immediately students were asking to look at it and borrow it- including one of my can't-get-into-anything readers! Well I couldn't read it until he had finished it, but he really liked it. (Which I knew was a great sign!)

This book was definitely funny, and seemed like one many kids could relate to in some way or another (even if they are not in a wheelchair or wanting to be a comedian!)

I also loved the elements that would make it great for classroom use: character development, foreshadowing, etc. It's also great for kids not super into reading, as there are pictures/cartoons illustrating throughout the book without feeling childish. Very age appropriate.

I loved the humor, loved the element of hope, and really just everything about this book!

So I grabbed this audio book from my local library for no particular reason. I was trying to see if I liked audio books, trying it out and for my first choice, I’d say I did pretty good.

It was also my first James Patterson experience. The book was hilarious and amazingly funny. I’m sure that middle grade students would really enjoy this book. It will keep you laughing the entire time.

I suggest the audio book because it is awesome. The boy reading it brings so much humor in such a “dry” voice that makes it even funnier.

Listened to this on audiobook with my kids. It had its good points and its bad points. The humor was bland, even for a kids book, and it went on a little long.

But it's a book about a kid who's working hard to become a standup comedian. Kids like it for the jokes and because Jamie Grimm seems relatable. Adults can see that it's more about a kid who uses humor as a way to deal with being paralyzed in a car accident that orphaned him.

Anyway, my kids like this book so much they named one of our pet fish Jamie Grimm. So.

1 Star ★ That was the stupidest book I have ever read. In my life. And the worst part? IT WAS REQUIRED. Yes, this was my required reading book for English. THIS. It took me less than two hours to read and was a complete waste of time. Recommended, possibly, to second or third graders who would like to be comedian when they grow up. Even then, you may get bored. The jokes are probably stupider than your incoherent noises when you were two years old.

I am very disappointed in James Patterson.

What a cute and fun story! Great MC. My only issue is him not "standing up" (for lack of better term) to the bully, just letting him get away with it. I didn't like that, but otherwise, it was so cute and fun. Typical Grabenstein.
