I loved the storyline-intense!! The language and graphic sex scenes could have been toned down- it would have for sure been a 5+!

Originally, I started this as an audiobook. I don't know if I wasn't paying attention enough or if it was formatted weird because it never announced chapter changes. Which is really difficult to follow when there are multiple characters the book follows. To sum that mini saga up, I restarted the book and solely read this one.

I did figure out the whodunnit aspect of this book about 25% of the way through. However, I loved watching the characters piece it together and the other characters unravel. This book, also put me through nearly every emotion. I was uncomfortable, I was sad - like legit shed a couple tears, I was angry, I was nervous. This was like reading an episode of Law and Order: SVU. It was also definitely written in an era where we didn't feel the need to put trigger warnings on everything, so if you get triggered easily please read with caution. I am a big shock factor girly though and this hit the nail on the head with shock factor for me.

If you follow me you can see that part of my requirement for a 5 star rating is if I would like it to be made into a TV show or a movie. There is already a TV show that follows the main character (if it follows certain books of the series I do not know as I have yet to watch it). However, this specific book in the series does deserve it's own movie and frankly, I'm kind of bummed that only a TV show was made.

Great start to a series of new characters for this author. I have read Grant County which I was told to read before this since some characters do make an appearances at some point in this series.

I like this author for a more dark thriller. For the fact that there are flawed characters even in the "heroes" and the likable people. The suspense is great and the build of characters is wonderful. There are some parts that are very gruesome or graphic. I don't feel this takes away from the story or the style of writing at all. Everything fits. It does jump around in time a bit and for awhile it focused on John Shelley which had me wanting to get back to Will Trent and the investigation, but in the end it came together well and was worth it.
