2.5 stars but not rounding up. Looking for a cute cozy romance with a bit of paranormal this seemed to fit the bill. Honestly it should have but fell flat. We are following, Gretchen,a fake medium who hustles people out of money. She isnt like all those other scammers because she follows a specific rule: only work with those that she can help. When her best client asks her to perform an exorciism on her bridge partners farm, the money is to good to pass by. She is shocked when she arrives and Charles isnt the 80 year she had imagined him to be. Unfortunately for her Charles instantly knows she is a fraud and wants nothing to do with. As she is waiting for uber tho ugh she is shocked with the ghost haunting the property appears in front of her. Now she really is a medium and has to convince Charles to allow her to help him to fight the curse that is on the family. The two main issues with this is that it is entirely to long. There is no reason that is almost 400 pages and should have been 100 pages shorter. This would have made the book much more enjoyable. The second problem for me is that while I liked Charles I was indifferent to Gretchen. She is presented as a fraudster with a golden heart but I did not buy it. There were to many instances where she would have contrasting throughts or not follow through with what she said she would do. I am not sure why the author put all of that in the book, pick one thing is she a good person or not?

This was such a fun book! A grumpy (and hot) goat farmer, a fraud of a medium (with her own personal trauma she was trying to overcome), a hilarious (and also slightly, occasionally annoying) century old ghost, and a family curse. I couldn't have asked for any more for a fun October Spooky Season read.
I laughed, I winced, I rolled my eyes, and most importantly, I had a great time.

I ate up the romance and the delightfully unique plot. Charlie annoyed me some parts and was kinda mean but I also liked it? idk good fun summer brain rot book

This was a cute read! Definitely a more honest take on the “liar revealed” trope, thankfully without the third act rift between characters. The secondary character of the ghost was just as fun as the protagonists, which made for some fun scenes. Check it out for a fun and lighthearted read!
