This was so cute and sweet. I do feel like the crappy dad thing was dropped too fast and I would have loved more animals in the epilogue but that’s just personal preference

Cute but I wish charlie had a little more substance! Exactly what I was looking for in a chill read though

Creepy. Not fun creepy either. Just a bunch of characters sexually harassing each other until love happens. I'm not convinced the ghost character wasn't actually a demon- a demon of irritation that feeds on how enraged and annoyed I was at him.

Question, also: was every contemporary romance author told that they were funny by some well-meaning family member or friend? Has anyone told them references to outdated media and dry sarcasm don't make someone actually funny? I can't imagine how many people have since had to pretend to laugh at Adler's "jokes" in their lives for making that mistake.

It's really a shame because the first, idk, 5-10 chapters display some pretty strong characterization, motive, and dialogue so it's not like Adler can't write. I blame her decision to include the ghost character as a major part of her cast- a decision which, I suspect, was a desperate attempt to bring some weak levity to what could have been an emotionally heartfelt book because it otherwise would have made her uncomfortable? Which is a terrible impulse to indulge in an emotional and interpersonal genre like Romance. Not all that surprising though, considering Adler admits to the entire idea starting off as pun she made in a tweet in the back pages.

Fucking horrible. I finished it in a rush out of spite and skimmed most of the end. God save the Romance genre, please
