I FLEW through this book! I loved the way it’s written, like you’re truly being told a story. It was so captivating and made you feel like you’re really a part of it.
I did find Belly to be a tad immature, although I know this is told from her point of view as a young teen. Occasionally it was a little confusing with the way she switched between time periods, but you get used to it quickly! It is such a unique way to write a story like this, truly making you feel like you are the kid dealing with all these big feelings and confusing thoughts. You can see the grief in all the characters and how they act, along with the joy that the summers always brought. Immediately starting the second book!!!

I could not finish this :/

The book was just very very average, and so completely different to the show. I wanted a lot more romance than had happened. It was okay, it wasn’t a bad book and it read quite easily but there was just nothing exceptional about it. No exceptional character, no exceptional quotes. Personally I liked the adaptation better, more seemed okay to happen. I do understand people liking Conrad more, but to be honest none of the boys were that special. I feel like everyone was more interesting in the show. It was fine.

In the kindest way possible, this book met my expectations. Just a little bit annoyed with belly all of the time but that goes with the genre and also her age.

i love the concept- the tumult of being a teenager. how everything that will one day be recognized as fleeting feels like forever- or at least the start of forever. and in some way it is.

still, belly gets on my nerves. perhaps like any teenage would at times? i’m torn between this book being good at capturing teenage emotions and this book having really static characters.

i read it at 14 and felt similarly tho (3 stars) so i’m going with static characters. i’ve watched the show since (am currently rereading so that i have fresh opinions for season 3) & honestly really love the show (minus belly’s attitude & choices).
