Although the characters started to annoy me in the middle of the book (except for Conrad and Susannah) I really enjoyed this book. It’s a real page turner, I couldn’t set it down. I can’t wait to read the next two books!
As for my team… I’m not sure. After watching (most of) the show I’m team Jeremiah. I was expecting to be firmly team Jeremiah after reading this book but I find book Conrad so charming. Also, I find I prefer show Jeremiah to book Jeremiah. So I guess I’m undecided right now. But, as Katherine Pierce once said, it's okay to love them both!

I’ve seen the Amazon Prime series come up here and there, so that along with the fact that summer is ending, I decided to give this series a try. I’m not very good about watching series I say I’ll watch, so I figured reading the books was the next best thing.
Part of me was nervous about starting this book, because I worried Belly would be a pick me girl. I was a mix between indifferent and put off by her. She could be pretty irritable and selfish, and I was not a fan of her mood swings.
Conrad was broody and gave mixed signals, while Jeremiah was more outgoing, and they both had an air of protectiveness when it came to Belly. However, I found myself preferring Jeremiah over Conrad. He was one of the only two characters I liked in this book (the other was his mom).
I wasn’t really connecting to the story or the characters at first, just felt kind of meh about everything. It felt like I was just an observer passing through, in a sense. It wasn’t until 32% that I felt like things were starting to pick up. And I had to admit, there were some emotional parts.
I wanted to love this book. I really did. But overall, this one just wasn’t for me. I don’t think I’ll be reading the next books.
