I absolutely love this book! This is my third time reading this book and every time it is amazing! I felt Isda's pain and anger and sadness. Truly wonderful writing and an amazing story, just make sure you have a box of tissues ready because once this book grabs you it is not letting go!

Gosh, I’m sad to be giving this book such a low rating, but ultimately it was just okay for me. I have read Olson’s other two books and absolutely loved and devoured them, but I just didn’t connect with this one. I will say, it was really nice to see her debut and be able to experience how far she’s come in her writing and storytelling. Olson truly does have a  knack for beautiful writing and imagery and for creating such unique stories/ magic systems. Unfortunately, I didn’t connect with the main characters as deeply in this one as I would have liked, and I wasn’t super invested in the plot. I definitely feel like this book was meant to gut me (in the best way), but I didn’t get there emotionally. Thankfully, this wasn’t my first book by her, and I already know how much I enjoy her writing now. So I will continue to pick up more from the author.

gold rush + Dear John. I'll never emotionally recover from this.

This is a beautiful, standalone, fantasy retelling of the Phantom of the Opera that will leave you staring out the window just thinking about these sweet, poor, wonderful characters.
Pick it up, please!
