Whew, this is a book that I thought about dnf’ing a few times throughout but I am glad that I stuck it through. The ending was worth the journey.
This romance has a lot of tropes:
Slow burn
Enemies to lovers
Grumpy x sunshine
Forced proximity
Forbidden love
I think I would’ve enjoyed this book more if it was 200 pages shorter, tbh. I wanted to take a shot every time the MMC called the FMC “angel”. The repetitiveness and lack of plot development made this story drag.
I won’t be continuing the series. But, I’d read other books from the author.

This was an incredibly beautiful story about love, longing, grief, and second chances. I laughed, giggled, kicked my feet and melted at so many different moments. J.L. Seegars puts these characters through it, and I cried, both with them and for them, many times throughout the book. The story itself is slower paced while still providing enough anticipation to keep going. I loved reading about characters that had actual experience from living life and weren't just fresh faced college or high school graduates. Sloane being 30 years old and a widow gave her depth that many romance characters lack. My one complaint, surprisingly, is that there was just a little too much spice for me. I don't feel like all the sex scenes were necessary and would have probably enjoyed the story more if there was half as much spice. I would absolutely recommend this story to readers who enjoy high spice, characters in their late 20's/early 30's, banter and teasing, touch her and die vibes, diverse reads.

Sloane - "The darkness filling Dominic's eyes. It was a living breathing thing. Pouring out of him and slithering into the room, wrapping its tendrils around me and squeezing like a vice."
Dominic - "You think a man could know how your lips taste and not be mad about being told he'll never get to have that again?"
"I want to kiss you. I need to know if you taste as good as you do in my dreams."

This is my first JL Seegars’ book and won’t be my last. It’s a beautiful redemptive (and very steamy) love story. Dom was everything a second love should be.
I read this after reading revive me part 1 & 2 (thank tiktok). I personally felt consumed by revive me (in the best way possible) so it was hard to top. I still enjoyed it and I’d give it 2.5 on
