I really liked both Dom and Sloane. I liked the dramatic irony of knowing what Dom was really thinking but hearing Sloane’s theories. Made me tear up multiple times. Definitely a good love after loss story.

Up until the last portion of the book, I was hooked and could not believe what I was reading. I've read smutty books before so this isn't my first. However, this is one of the first books to make me blush and make me question myself on whether it's right for me to be a fly on the wall in Dom and Sloane's bedroom lol. Aside from the smut, i enjoyed the author's take on grief from losing a loved one and moving on. It was realistic and although I've never lost a partner (and am thankful not to have went through this experience), it was very easy for me to empathize with Sloane's reluctance to love again and understand her panic regarding her second family. Overall, I enjoyed the story. I will say, however, I do wish there was a better balance of advancing the plot and the amount of smut. Don't get me wrong, I love smut, but after awhile, I really wanted to know what happened next in Dom and Sloane's journey and was left hanging because scene after scene was sex. Dom was thoughtful, downright sexy, and a really good protagonist with his own Demons, in which could have been explored more. the fire and smoke was repeatedly mentioned but wasn't delved into. In the early part of the book, he mentions that Sloane's husband violated their marriage and that never came up again, although I was waiting for it. Her Ex seemed too perfect. The last portion of the book is mainly the reason for my lower rating. I can't stand third act breakups and their's was just unnecessary and annoying. And this was proven when they came back together with little to no resistance.  Their breakup and the entire ending was lacking reason and truly felt like the author was just ready to wrap up the story. After the break up, I started skimming to get to the end because it just wasn't it for me. Other than the end, I enjoyed the story. I'd read more from the author but I don't think I'm interested in Mallory's story. The mentions of her and Chris didn't do much for me and I honestly wanted to know what would happen with Dom and Sloane and Mallory and Chris was just an afterthought/filler for me.

This book had a lot of feelings and spice. However, i had a hard time getting into the couple and how/why they fell for each other. Dom’s instant love for Sloane was kind of hard to believe and their insta lust ten years later took a lot of the tension away. I still enjoyed the characters and the world, it’s just this book didn’t deliver all the feels.

Can’t wait to read the rest of this series. Forbidden love and beautiful/slightly spicy romance story.

Not memorable, took a long time to get through it.
her past husband’s story was dragged out too long, and the guilt from the mmc's side...
the book could’ve been a little bit shorter.
