Great writing and a good enough story, but there was more steam than story.
There's romance, and there's erotica. This is definitely erotica. These days, the two genres seem to be lumped into one. It's a frustrating trend that makes it hard to know what to expect.

I might as well have highlighted the entire book when I read this 😂 but wow what a book. So happy to finally get around to reading it because it’s been on my TBR for the longest. Dominic…what a man what a man what a man! I can’t stress that enough. While some wouldn’t agree with the circumstances your best friend being in love with your widowed wife, there were so many layers the outside world didn’t see. From the first day he laid eyes on Sloane he marked her as his angel. The one who didn’t see his shadows that casted trouble and trauma behind them. But one that was saving him. It was true love at first sight and the electricity that bolted between them tied their souls before either one ever would’ve realized. Only problem Sloane doesn’t remember this night. From that day Dom became her protector and she became the only girl to win his heart. When he said he was willing to go to hell for Sloane and accept his fate he meant every single word!!! Just ugh 😩my heart cried out for him living with this feeling for 12 years as he watched Sloane fall in love with his best friend. Hurt, anger, frustration, and more balled up in one’s heart not because she didn’t love him back but simply because it was what never was.
But he never stopped loving Sloane. However he had to mask his pain to be able to live with the fact she wasn’t his and couldn’t be because her husband (his best friend) Eric was her love. Until his accident resulting in his death. Four years later Sloane is still grieving her husband not ready to move on because then it makes him being gone forever a reality. Dominic’s actions to Sloane made it seem he hated her and they never saw eye to eye. Working on a project together forced them to be a team. It also forced the suppressed feeling Dom kept hidden to resurface. Before they knew it the two’s chemistry once again was bringing them together and a new relationship one of friendship and romantic feelings started to form. Dominic saw Sloane for more than someone who was “broken” and told her to let him be whatever she needed him to be to help her heal, to enjoy life for once. Hesitant she agreed as she couldn’t deny the invisible line that kept drawing the two together. But to ensure her greatest fears didn’t come true she put a timeline on their relationship.
I can’t put into words how beautiful the story was to read. Again some would be against it given Sloane was still close to Eric’s family. His twin sister being her best friend and mother in law being like a true mother to her. She was afraid to lose them if they found out about her and Dom. But she didn’t realize they only wanted to see she was happy in life. Dom became that for her and she was always that for him. The deeper connection they had as they spent more time together was so beautiful to see. Both facing similar childhood trauma from abusive parents. Sloane’s more emotional/verbal and Dominic more physical. Sloane so afraid she’d never find love again because Eric was gone. But life gave her another chance through Dominic.
I was hurt to see the internal battles both faced daily because of the unknown. They didn’t realize how much the other was falling for each other. Dom always loved Sloane and thought he could suppress it while Sloane didn’t think she was worthy of love. But she was! Everyone is deserving of love no matter what we have experienced, no matter who has hurt us, no matter what life has shown us. Because that feeling of finding your person, your the half, your twin flame is rare but when you find it nothing else matters. These two were meant for each other. It was simply right person wrong time. Like Dominic said everything led to this moment. To see them pour their hearts out and wear it on their sleeves to one another, to not let the hurt push them away but instead make them fall more in love with each other. Truly beautiful and I wish that for anyone. Dom knew Sloane better than she knew herself. He knew what made her mad but also what made her happy. I loved how observant he was of her it was scary at times but it proved daily his love for her ran deep.
The ending had me teary-eyed. To see how things played out warmed my heart and the title drop! Ugh 😭😭🥺🥺 a story I could read over and over again. The playlist paired so well with this book especially the later chapters. Truly happy to see Sloane allow herself a second chance at life, love, happiness and even happier to know Dominic was the source of it ❤️❤️❤️
