A haunting thriller following a string of murders.
The plot was somewhat slow and the shifts from past to present were not always smooth. But the characters were well developed and the thrill was classic Guillermo. A possible start to an interesting series.

This one gave off big X-Files vibes, and I loooved the X-Files… but it didn’t cleanly land for me. The characters are intriguing, and the premise enticing, but the story ended up feeling overly long for the actual content provided. The story left me with high hopes for what could come next, but a little nonplused by the book I’d just read. 2.5 stars

Interesting and engaging, with cool worldbuilding that manages to evade my disdain for the “secret powerful demonic rituals” genre of horror.

To figure out what’s happening, and to get her career back on track, she consults a mythic occultist, Hugo Blackwood.
The book has a nice pace, and the mystical aspect has a nice feel to it. Characters seemed ever so slightly flat at some points, and the ending could have lasted longer.
Overall: a nice, well paced occult investigation novel.
Looking forward to the second instalment.
