I knew nothing about Argentina’s “Dirty War” in the 70’s and 80’s. What a heartbreaking time it was for the people of Argentina. This book shines light on the atrocities in a gentle way by setting bouncing back and forth between the late 90’s and that time frame as the daughter of an Argentine diplomat tries to discover secrets about her father’s past.

I learned a lot about a completely unknown topic and I’m a huge fan of multiple timeline books!

In this dual timeline story, Paloma and her ex-pat family return to Argentina prior to her dad's start as a consulate official in Buenos Aires in 1998. However, when Paloma learns a secret about her father, Santiago, she begins digging into his past in Buenos Aires in the 1970s, as student protests and political violence grew amidst the widespread "disappearing" of political and cultural dissidents.

What a beautiful debut of the power of identity, memory, family, forgiveness, and redemption! Fans of Carolina De Robertis' "Perla" will really enjoy this!
