(Initial rating 3 stars) I never managed to write a review after initial reading so what follows is a review after rereading the story two years later.

The beginning of the book is horrifying as the main character Georgie wakes up in the cargo hold of an alien ship to realize she's been abducted by little green men with a bunch of other girls and witnesses a rape of another female captive by orange aliens who serve as the muscle to their captors.

We’re nothing but cattle to these things. They’re going to sell us to someone else to rape, to eat, or both. Or something else more horrible that I can’t even imagine.

Almost immediately Georgie and Liz, a fellow captive, start hatching up an escape plan which coincides with alien ship experiencing issues and dropping "the cargo" to a safe location to be picked up later.

Georgie, as their de facto chosen leader, ventures out in the cold in order to try to find help. It is only by luck that she wanders into one of the traps and the planet native, Vektal, finds her and frees her from it. Vektal almost immediately recognizes Georgie as his mate, as the symbiont in his chest makes him "resonate" to her which leads to some very dubiously consensual sexual activity. Language barrier doesn't help the matters as the two have trouble communicating with each other but Vektal is determined about taking care of Georgie while she is trying to find her way back to the other survivors. Still the developing relationship between the two is rather idyllic and the two engage in further sexual activity.

Upon rereading I found the relationship between Georgie and Vektal quite boring because if we disregard the troubles in communication there were no major issues between these two complete strangers who only met five minutes ago. What I was more interested in was getting back to the other survivors and seeing Georgie and Vektal being all lovey dovey just made me impatient to get to the more plotty part of the story.

Let's be honest, this is a great introduction to a fun series about blue skinned aliens mating with humans who were "lucky" enough to get stranded on a frozen ice planet in the middle of nowhere, after they were initially being kidnapped and abused by different sets of aliens. But as romance between Georgie and Vektal it was somewhat boring relying too much on sex scenes between main characters for my taste.

Themes: dual POV, alien abduction, stranded, "fated" mates, pregnancy

Ice Planet Barbarians by Ruby Dixon is the first novel in the Ice Planet Barbarians romantic sci-fi series, and it's a book that I'm disappointed in. Trigger warnings in this book include; gang rape, dubious consent, and
pregnancy.

Within the first 7% of the this book the author writes in a minor character who's only purpose in this story is to be the victim of alien gang rape (that is an on page scene) and then she dies off page and is found frozen in this snow later.

When Viktal (the sexy barbarian) first meets Georgie, our protagonist, he instantly sticks his face in her privates and begins giving her oral without consent? The Georgie makes a joke about how she should be worried about being raped but instead she can't stop laughing at how ticklish everything is. Wow. Okay.

I really had high hopes for this series, I thought I would like it but I couldn't even get 7% of the way through without wanting to DNF this shit. Well I finished it and it didn't get much better.
I absolutely hate pregnancy tropes so this explains why I didn't care for the ending very much.

It's unfortunate that I didn't like this book that much because Viktal and Georgie were cute together.

I'm giving this 2 stars out of 5, as I had a hard time enjoying this.

review is based on the digital version + the honeymoon short story bc i was not about to buy the actual book

not only was this just the author projecting her monsterfucker fantasy onto these characters, but it contained a very stereotypical kidnapping by green aliens, quite a bit of sexual assault and borderline cnc, falling for each other in less than three days, unintentionally baby trapping(?), a really cheap cop out of a language barrier, entirely too many star wars references, a variety of phrases i did not want to read, and mediocre smut. also his skin feels like suede ?? i have not been able to move past that.

also, the epilogue felt weirdly out of character. miss maam barely cared about the girls when they initially died and suddenly she has survivors guilt ?? would’ve been a better plot point had it been in the actual book.

unfortunately, i will be reading the rest of them.

A friend of mine has been a fan of this series for years and I finally decided to give it a try. I was surprised how much fun this book was to read! The mixture of fluff, smut, adventure, and humor is a slam dunk. After spending the past month in the trenches of reading dark romances, it’s so refreshing that the lead couple actually likes each other.

I’m not normally a fan of science fiction (particularly because the intense world building can be so overwhelming when starting a new series), but the gradual build up of the story makes this novel’s setting an easy one to explore and get lost in.

TL;DR: Loved it and downloading book 2 as I type
