Aliens
Fancy 🍆
Mates
Language barrier

Big blue dude essentially says “Hi, you’re my mate!” by putting his mouth on the FMC's 😼. I don’t have an issue with his greeting. I have an issue with the fact that she’s not really conscious and consenting. She could have been…boo.

40%…it’s not been a day. This book is moving fast.

Over all; this isn’t the worst thing I’ve ever read, I may even give the second book a go. But I can’t help but feel that the popularity of this book is mainly driven by people new to spicy books. I can’t help but feel like the novelty of spice and alien peen is the primary reason people are enamoured by this book.

I reluctantly tried this because it was on audible plus and I knew it was popular on BookTok. Why not? I feel like I went down the Sci-Fi version of Alice’s rabbit hole. I’m my mad about it either 😏🤪

Although IPB starts of dark, this doesn't detract from how how much I love Georgie (and eventually Vektal.)

Ruby Dixon does an amazing job of writing believable and relatable heroines thrown into difficult situations. Georgie is someone strong, almost in a subtle way, who strives to make things better instead of complaining about her lot in life. She's funny, persuasive, and stands up for the little guy. Although she doesn't naturally assume a role of leadership, she does what she has to so that she can keep the people around her safe.

Needless to say, the plot and world-building of IPB draws you in and keeps you hooked. Although Vektal is not my favourite at the start, and the writing indicates that it's through a misunderstanding of cultures, I definitely warm to him by the end.

However, I will add that a lot of these could do with a second round of editing as there are typos, changes from first to third POV mid sentence, and the kindle display between page breaks is literally a blank page.

1.75 ⭐️, 4 🌶️

Characters: 0.25
The main characters were flat and I never felt compelled to be particularly sympathetic to them but I didn't hate them either. Side characters seemed much more promising.
Plot: 0.25
A little ridiculous and over the top in some areas
(e.g. the horrific sexual assault of a side character at the beginning of the book)
, Ice Planet Barbarians does have enough potential to lead into an enjoyable series even if the first book left a lot to be desired.
Pacing: 0.25
Faced paced but some how incredibly slow.
Writing style: 0.5
Could use some polish but not bad.
Vibes: 0.5
I enjoyed the world-building more than the characters, though the sci-fi aspects like the space ships were a bit uninspired.

Spice: 4 🌶️
Multiple vanilla scenes but he's alien who's got some fun bits and is completely devoted to her. Plus banging in furs by a fire has its atmospheric appeals.
Tropes: big blue alien, fated mates, he falls first, pregnancy, technically forced proximity

Overall the book was meh. I enjoyed the more survival focused bits of the book and the communication barrier between the humans and the aliens.

The sex scenes were...not my cup of tea. They were very...you know when you are making fun of bad heterosexual erotica and how to guy has a 20ft dick and the woman orgasms in 2 seconds? That's what it seemed to be.

Also, I'm assuming this is a fault of the platform I listened to the audiobook (spotify) and not the actual book, but content warnings were not read. Which meant that in the first chunk of the book, I was suddenly thrust into a r*pe scene of a background character by, for lack of a better term, prison guard. I was not prepared AT ALL for that and although it didn't go into much detail--it was still a jarring scene to listen to when doing my dishes!
