I came very close to giving up on this book because I thought I knew where the story was going within the first 100 pages and I was very put off by my assumptions. I’m glad I persevered because my predictions were very far off and the whole book ended up taking me by surprise in the best way. It was laugh out loud funny and deeply endearing. Sophie Cousens writes romcoms in the truest form and I will continue to read what she writes!

REVIEW: Before I Do
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I thought this book was insta-love at first and if I’m honest, insta-love is one of my least favorite tropes! I can’t say much more about that without giving things away but let’s just say, this book is not what it seems 👀 I really enjoyed listening to this one and I went in a little bit blind since I bought the book over a year ago when it was published

The main character Audrey is flighty and impulsive. She loves that her fiancé Josh brings her down to earth with his responsible, make-a-plan attitude. But, on the day of her wedding, she starts to wonder if they’re too different.

I really loved the ending of this book, it was not where I thought it was going when I started listening. I enjoyed the multi-timeline format more than I thought I would. You get a really good feel for the characters when you see them in all of the different timelines. You also don’t miss out on the falling in love stage between Audrey and her fiancé Josh which is my favorite part of a romance book 🥰

Read if you like:
💕 romance with a side of self discovery
💍 weddings
👯‍♀️ strong friendships
🏠 family drama
👵🏻 superstitious grandmas

I stumbled across this title while at Barnes & Noble and it caught my eye.
"Before I Do" follows Audrey during the hours before her wedding day. Audrey is about to marry a very practical man, Josh. The day is planned, and she is at her rehearsal, everything seems to be falling into place, until Fred walks in. Fred was Audrey's one-night-stand from years ago, and the guy she never really got over. Perhaps this is a sign from the universe that Fred is her soulmate...
I hated Audrey as a character. She was annoying and did not know what she wanted or who she is, both of which I think are crucial to at least have some inkling about before you get married. She read into everything, and took every obstacle or minor inconvenience as a sign that she should not marry Josh. I understand her mother did not set a great example of how to be in a healthy, stable relationship, but she is her own person, Audrey should know better how to treat people!
I would have given this book 2 stars, however I really enjoyed the ending! I think the ultimate resolution and Audrey's eventual revelation is very valuable and inspiring about what a true love story is.
This book was very okay. Ultimately, I am curious to read more from the author, but I do not feel like I need to run out and buy another book right now.

(In the tune of Sondheim)
I'm not well
So I'm not getting married
You've been swell
But I'm not getting married
Clear the hall
'Cause I'm not getting married
Thank you all
But I'm not getting married TODAY

Somewhere between a 3.5 & 4.0

I’m a huge fan of Sophie’s work, but I’m still struggling to decide how much I liked this.

Let’s get this out of the way, Josh is a gem and Audrey  needs therapy. I enjoyed her in the present but my goodness girl you also need a hug.

It’s a cute story, but many times while reading this I asked myself, “why am I reading this!!?!?“I personally was able to predict most of this story? But yes, if you want a well written story this is a good one.
