According to Libby (the library borrowing app), I had borrowed and read this in 2021. I read the summary and didn't remember it, and Goodreads showed it as "Want to Read" so I figured Libby was wrong. Oddly, I'm *still* not sure if I read it before or not - bits seemed familiar, but I still had no idea how this would turn out until about 80% through, and even then I was right, but never convinced I was right!

3.75!

This one started a little slow for me but about half way through it really got interesting.

There seemed to be a couple plot points that seemed just not possible and I guessed the ending but the writing was so well done that it didn’t matter.

There was definitely a couple parts that were hard to read so if you have any triggers definitely look up the warnings.

it took a while to get into but towards the end, i couldn’t put it down!

It was cunning! A novel that keeps you hanging on till the last moment!

I really enjoyed the back-and-forth between Jack, a police officer, and Anna, a Journalist in a small sleepy British town. The pair also happen to be exes and investigate the mysterious deaths of women who grew up together. The banter back and forth between them as they bump into each other is hilarious and Feeney is always masterful with her writing, she keeps you hooked until the very end. You think you have the murderer solved but the loop at the end was just incredible.

A must-read! 3.5/5

Favourite quote:
The lies we tell ourselves are always the most dangerous. I think it’s instinct; self-preservation is a fundamental part of our DNA. We are a species of liars, and sometimes we deliberately connect the dots in the wrong order, and pretend to make sense of what we see. We stretch the stories of our lives to fit our own desired narratives, presenting a prettier picture for those around us. Honesty loses every time to a lie less ordinary, and truth is overrated. Far better to make it up than to make do. - Alice Feeney, His & Hers

Was alright.

Alice Feeney is definitely one of my favorite authors when it comes to psychological suspense. The anonymous third narrator kept me guessing as did many of the plot twists. I did not have this one figured out until the end. There were a couple loose ends that keep me from rating it a bit higher, but I definitely recommend this one if you are a fan of psychological thrillers.

First time reading an Alice Feeney book and I definitely wasn’t disappointed! Can’t wait to read some of her other stuff!

I finished but just barely. I was bored, halfway through this book, and was ready to skim him to the end. I felt like things were happening but at the same time absolutely nothing was happening. I don’t think that the way this narrative was put together, did it any favors. I don’t think the combination of the flashbacks, and the present story worked well at all together. Also, it was really bothering me that Anna and Jack just couldn’t function at all. Especially Jack. He was a cop yet made the wrong decision at every turn. Incredibly annoying.

Immediately grabbing and I couldn’t stop thinking about this book. Crazy all the way up until the end.
