The only thing I didn’t like was that I figured out who it was, which I haven’t been able to do with her other books. A lot of people said this was one of her best books but I enjoyed “Rock Paper Scissors” much more. Good book - but not my favorite by her.

So excited Netgalley has started doing audiobooks because I LOVE a good audiobook and this is definitely one of them.

If I had to describe this book in one word it would be WHIPLASH

This was such a fantastic read. I’ve said how much I love unreliable narrators and this book definitely leaves you so unsure who to believe.

Very early on I guessed who our killer was. I was so sure. Then as we go on the story and twists are revealed I was so unsure.
I changed my mind on who was guilty so many times. Alice Feeney has me so confused and on the edge of my seat.
If you enjoy super suspenseful domestic thrillers where literally everyone has secrets then you will love this one.

Also I highly recommend listening to this on on audiobook as well!
The performances were great and the chapters narrated by the killer with the distorted voice gave me chills!

While I didn’t predict the ending….like how is this ending all even possible

I don’t know whether to rate this book a 5 or a 3. The writing was well done as always. This author is clearly a great thriller writer. The pacing built naturally and while some points were a bit slower overall, I would say the pacing was on point. The characters were flawed and felt very realistic. I understood why both main characters were conflicted. This review is going to stay short due to me not wanting to spoil anything. If I’m rating this book based off of how much time I spent thinking about it and the outcome then I’d give it a 5. If I am rating it based on the ending I would give it a 3. After reading this book I have realized the pattern this author has and how similar all of their books are especially in the twists. I don’t necessarily see that as a bad thing but it will take away from my enjoyment when reading their next book. Overall, I was completely entertained and I won’t lie this story did consume me so I will land in the middle with a 4.

Brilliant. Kept me guessing.

God bless Alice Feeney. I have been in a bit of a reading slump this month with mediocre book after mediocre book and a few less-than-mediocre sprinkled in. I needed something to pull me out of this rut. I needed something good, really good. Enter Alice Feeney.

I know this isn’t a recent publication for this author. I’m still making my way through her backlist. But I recalled a friend having listened to this one and really enjoying it, so I opted to jump in without looking and I was NOT disappointed. Thank goodness!

This one is right up there with Sometimes I Lie for me, which I liked slightly better than Daisy Darker. It grabs you from the beginning and holds your attention throughout. I had my guess as to who the murderer was and I was right, but let me tell you that Feeney had me second-guessing my choice the entire time! After finishing, I thought it would be fun to go back and listen to the murderer’s first chapter again and it just blows me away how deftly Feeney drops breadcrumbs that don’t feel like breadcrumbs until you’re looking backwards.

The dual audio narration is perfection. I love Stephanie Racine, who has narrated many of Feeney’s books, and Richard Armitage is back with Stephanie to add His POV. The voice modulator effect used for the murderer’s POV was chef’s kiss. Listen carefully to that modulated voice and see if you notice anything over the course of the book. If you notice what I’m talking about, you’ll appreciate how the producer of the audiobook added this additional layer to the story that was so perfectly aligned with Feeney’s method of storytelling.

I really enjoyed this audiobook and it was exactly what I needed to pull me out of my reading rut. If you love a good twisty plot that keeps you guessing, you’ll enjoy this one.

A murder mystery told between two perspectives...the whole time they're leaving out info and trying to tease meanings. I knew it wasn't really my kind of book but chose to read it based on a rec from a book IG whose other recommendations I have really liked. This is everything I don't like about these kinds of mysteries--all the misdirection, leaving out information, trying to make it look like one person for a chapter, then maybe another. Then--surprise!--it's someone else entirely. The twist in this one was so ridiculous I just couldn't care.

Take my negative review with a grain of salt. I don't like murder mysteries, so it was mainly my own fault for thinking this one would be different. Waste of three hours.

I had heard excellent things about this audiobook specifically & couldn't wait to get it with my Audible credit for August. It's told from his perspective, her perspective & the killer's perspective...but you don't know if he or her is also the killer. The killer's voice is distorted & extra creepy, which definitely adds to the experience.⁣

It's hard to say much about this one without giving things away that aren't known from the start - but loosely, a reporter is asked to cover a murder in the small town she grew up in, and heading back home is about the last thing she wants to do. Meanwhile, a detective intentionally moved home to that small town to escape the craziness of cases in London, only to find himself working a murder.⁣

One of the main things I heard about this one was how bonkers the ending was, and because of that I was thinking of what the most extreme thing would be and did loosely guess some of the ending. Nonetheless, it was still an engaging, need-to-know-more read! Definitely recommend.

I had my sights on who the killer was from the start, but I was WRONG! This his and hers perspectives were interesting as was the overall storyline. I'll definitely read more from this author.

I'm not sure how to rate this book. The ending was......very unexpected and left me speechless. The book was twisty and kept the pages turning. Not sure I liked the end but I did enjoy the rest.
