2.5???

I really enjoyed this book and I read it in 2 days! Very hard to put down once you start. Definitely look at trigger warnings before reading: scenes of grooming, abuse, rape, and detailed murder scenes. So many twists, but it did leave me with a couple points (that may not be important to everyone, but had me deduct a star from my review): the other police officers should’ve known Jack was involved with Rachel because it was mentioned at the morgue that semen was found. After this, the point was dropped and never mentioned again. However the book did take place rather quickly, so maybe it wasn’t enough time to do a DNA test. Also, why did the killer want Catherine to commit suicide? Catherine seemed like the more likely one to want revenge to me, and the fact that the real killer wanted her gone too was sad. The only person I really had sympathy for was Catherine/Cat during all of this and it was not right to me that she was killed/supposed to commit suicide.

4.5/5

i'll be honest, i'm a little mad i didn't guess the end of this book. the first 68% being kinda boring and miserable was made worth it in the end. definitely was interesting, but not revolutionary imo. i listen to my audiobooks at 1.3x speed because i get so distracted if it's slower but as i drove home this evening i had it up to 1.5x speed as i was desperately wanting to finish the book tonight. not life changing, but a fun read.

4.5⭐️ and easily the best Alice Feeney book!! I had a ton of fun reading it and was shocked by the multiple twists.

Short synopsis: When a body of a young woman is found in their small village, recently divorced Anna and Jack are brought back together. Alternating between His & Her POV as well as from the perspective of a mysterious murderer, you begin to wonder who’s lying and who’s telling the truth.

I loved the short chapters, perfectly paced storyline, hard to predict ending and unreliable narrators. The flashbacks integrated throughout the story helped build the tension and better understand the complex characters. I did a mix of audio/ reading and thought the narration was extremely well done and easy to follow.

Read if you like:
-short chapters
-alternating POVs
-unreliable narrators
-small town settings

An alcoholic news anchor called Anna Andrews who will do anything for her career.
There is a murder in Blackdown, a tiny little village in Surrey and Anna is sent to be the correspondent for the BBC. Anna desperately does not want to cover this story but there is no way out and that is when we discover that Anna actually grew up in Blackdown.

DCI Jack Harper now works and lives in Blackdown where he misses the excitement of working in the city and still misses his wife. Jack is quietly pleased that something has finally happened in Blackdown although he is suspicious of Anna and her involvement and then Jack himself becomes a suspect.

This shows us how there are always two sides to the story . . and sometimes even more.
slow-paced

i thought this was a thriller it was straight up HORROR my mistake for reading it right before bed but it was good though

Listened to on Audible. I liked the 3 narrators, with the murderer's being the creepiest. Lots of nice red herrings. Even though I did predict who the murderer was, there were many many times I thought I was wrong.
