I really enjoyed this. It did take a while for me to get into, I don't think it was as easy for me to get into as TJR's other work. The narrative style was very unique and I enjoyed that change, particularly the element of very biased and unreliable narrators.
I felt that the female voices in this were given a platform. Three completely different women finding their place in the world and happiness, that so clearly not being the same for each of them and all of the pain and struggles they went through to get there.
Some of the characters were not very likeable and their attitudes really played into the dynamic of the band, I appreciated this aspect because I feel like this was much more realistic than them all being happy and friendly all the time.
While reading it, I felt like it could genuinely have been a memoir, the line between fiction and real life felt very blurred.
While I really enjoyed this, there are other TJR books that I enjoyed more.

I greatly enjoyed reading this book, so why the low rating? The writing concept was really good, it was great even, but the execution was a bit sloppy at times. ALSO only having one account of Pete, the bassist squeezed in at the very end??? I thought he died before the books interview. And the fact he lived irked me. Yeah I cried and it was a very tumultuous journey and it felt so real i had to look up whether they were a real band or not (the answer: not until the show came out). That's all i have to say about it. Cool stuff.

literally just finished this so may have to come back and review it later because I’m actually quite speechless.

I haven’t enjoyed a book like this is a while. Can’t get over how immersive it was and how REAL it all feels. The way it’s written literally makes it feel like these are your memories you are reliving and that you are a reader eager to find out about the history of your favourite band.

The last two sections were so unbelievable and heartbreaking and soooo so good plot wise and character wise and I think I will be thinking about this book and the impact it’s had on me creatively for a whole.

The story telling was SO unique and gripping and I loved the use of all the characters as unreliable narrators collective creating a conceivable narrative.

can’t really say much more because quite speechless at the moment but just know that if you’re choosing between books/need sometime to get you inspired again READ THIS
