Daisy Jones and the Six is the book to read for anyone who ever went through a Fleetwood Mac phase. This book completely captures the drama, angst, magic, and appeal of what being THE rock band of the 1970s must have been. This romanticized group, at the top of the world, all struggling with the lowest lows that makes them entirely human. The thrill of young love, the appeal of fame and drugs, the heartbreak of lives that don’t align with the loves that we long for. While I usually hate live triangles, Reid did it exactly right. There was no physical affair, but the emotional connection feels even more traitorous. I wanted nothing more than for Daisy and Billy to be together, but also knew that at THAT moment, they weren’t supposed to be. Maybe it’s the fictionalization of a band I have always loved, a realistic love connection, or the world that Taylor Jenkins Reid built, but this book was able to transport me into this story. I laughed, cried, cringed, and played the Amazon soundtrack on repeat for a week. Believe the hype, and read this one!

This book is incredibly enchanting, from the way Reid writes the story to the differing memories of the characters! It was so much fun to read and felt so *real*. Highly recommend reading this!

Love the innovative format. Really hated the characters and had no sympathy for them.* But honestly, I'm not a TJR fan. This was my third and last book of hers. I understand why the hype--it's the format and the idea of the story. And maybe the execution, but I really hated reading this and was happy to be done. I just don't care about these people. I do not care about celebrities in my real life and don't care about them in my reading life.

*I watched the TV show based on this hoping to love it more. Nope. Though I thought the actors did an amazing job.

I would’ve rated this higher, but I was bored for 3/4 of the book. The last 1/4 was great, but before then, I kept wondering why this book was so popular and acclaimed and made into a TV series.

My first Taylor Jenkins Reid book. TJR writes this one as a script for a documentary of the band, so it’s only interview tapes. This makes it feel like the outline of a book, without the narrative and settings to back it up. TJR is clearly great at writing dialogue and just thought, “what if I don’t do anything else?” Why isn’t she writing plays? This can hardly be called a novel. I mean, I didn’t hate reading this, but it was hardly fleshed out and emotionally inviting. Besides, TJR has a problem which is that she thinks she can do the work of referencing the craziness of the 70s rock’n’roll scene with all the booze, sex and drugs without actually describing it for us. This makes it seem pretty boring and has you, as a reader, relying on what you might’ve seen in “Almost Famous” to give the work any kind of setting.
