This was more like a short story and I feel guilty that it's counted as one of my books. It's a book for Outlander fans that takes place after Jamie's flogging, but before he goes back to Scotland. He's a mercenary in France. He and Ian are together, so that's fun.
A fast read as with all the Outlander short stories/novellas. I was a bit disappointed as I expected to lear n more about Ian and get to know him better. The story was fine, but I am more confused now, because I learned stuff about Jamie that have never been mentioned in the later books ever.
Hard to understand what the narrator is saying at times but still a wonderful story. A wonderful precursor to the Outlander series.

It has been a nice and well written story. I had to read on and was finished pretty fast as it is quite short. Nevertheless something was missing to make it really exiciting

Not terrible but not good either.
You get to know more about Ian Murray and Jamie Fraser but that's all. Just a lil bit more.

I'd read this novella when it was first released as part of the Dangerous Women anthology, but now it's available as a stand-alone ebook and audiobook. I listened to the audio this time around, and it was wonderful. Narrator Allan Scott-Douglas does an amazing job with the narration and the voices, and it was a pleasure to listen to.
In terms of plot, this is a terrific tale of young Jamie Fraser and his best friend Ian Murray during their time as mercenaries in France, a few years before the events of Outlander. For fans of the series, it's well worth checking out.

Quick read to refresh on all things Jaime and Ian.
adventurous
lighthearted
While it was enjoyable to spend time with young Jamie before Outlander, and the details of Jewish life in the 18th century were interesting, this story just seemed a bit over the top. Ah well.
