Ugly sobbed over this..
It’s so beautifully written and each story is captivating and witty or just devastating.

I'm admittedly not typically a short story reader, but I actually enjoyed this collection.

Even though this book didn’t blow me away the way I wanted it to. I can appreciate how much I saw my family and community in the snapshots of the characters life.

It wasn’t my ‘normal’ type of book but I really enjoyed reading the short stories.

My heart was shattered into a million pieces! These are the stories of my family, my culture, and heritage. Only a Haitian writer can break my heart so beautifully and poetically. These are the stories my mother and father brushed over, telling my siblings and I that we were born here and don’t need to hear these tales. But these are the tales that keep our culture thriving through generations to come! Edwidge Danticat Thank you!

A lovely collection of short stories that imparts some lesson to the reader; Danticat does a great job creating rich, descriptive characters and beautiful scenes.

It seethed and boiled, it was a peephole into the characters’ lives.
Maybe you will be hurt by the stories and certainly there are tales to trigger you among these, but it is so beautifully written, you will be taken in.
The stories are life, and written in a poetic way, I swirled the rhythm around in my mouth as I read, as much to know what happened each time as to revel in its beauty.

A solid collection of short stories but really not much stands out or will be memorable from it.
