I haven't read an Austin novel since my early university days (20 years ago now! Eek!), so when I saw this I knew I had to read it  This manga adaptation did not disappoint.  It gave depth to Mr. Darcy not previously seen and did justice to Ms. Austins story while allowing a modern audience to access it.  Great novel about letting our pride and/or prejudice getting in the way of seeing people who for who they really are.  A must read for any Austin fan!

Excellent adaptation of the novel. Good entry point to Austen for modern young people.

Read for Missoula Reads 2023 challenge- Genre Bending. I give this book a 4 for being a fast read and helping me understand the story better. I give it a 3 for the few times I was still a bit confused as graphic novels aren’t my thing. Maybe I don’t take enough time to look at the pictures, I don’t know.

'Manga Classics: Pride & Prejudice' is a faithful and unusual version of the classic. As a fan of the original work by Jane Austen, I found this to be a pleasing adaptation.

All the major characters and events from the novel are here. The manga style is a bit hard to get used to because it can be comical in places, but only in places where the story deems it. Every time the characters speak of love, they are surrounded by flowers. The characters act and move dramatically. I don't read a lot of manga, but there were clear instructions on how to go about it, so I was up and running in no time. There are even some mini-comics and sketches at some of the chapter ends to flesh out the characters.

I think Stacy King's adaptation is great and English teachers had best beware. Students may choose to read this 376 page manga instead of the novel, and could probably write a decent paper. They would, of course, miss the beauty of the original work, so this is not an endorsement of that behaviour. I liked Po Tse's art. It was perhaps a bit too feminine and flowery for my particular taste, but it serves the story well. Well done!

I was given a review copy of this graphic novel by Udon Entertainment, Myrick Marketing and Media, LLC and NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you for allowing me to review this graphic novel.
