Don’t fight me on this I adored this book. Farli is so cute and funny and wholesome. Wasn’t crazy about the age gap but Mardok and Farli were really cute together. This plot was much better paced, entertaining, and believable than the last couple books! I highly recommend this one if you are a fan of the rest of the ipb series!

2.5 ⭐ Felt rushed and honestly just empty. Farli was the wild woman innocent to the ways of the world stereotype, and Mardok was just a bowl of bland soup with a tragic backstory that added nothing except for a conflict that was solved last second. The set up for the next book is not great either, as I have no idea how the author can make Bek be terrible only to redeem him, and then make him terrible all over again.

I am glad I didn’t let the previous book stop me from continuing this series.
The romance was cute and OK. I was a bit put off by him comparing her to a child so often in the beginning but I thought they were sweet. There weren’t as many funny moments as some of the others, which I missed a bit.
But what really made this worth it was learning more about the people and where they came from. I really appreciated that.
A solid listen.

Farli is out hunting one day when she sees a spaceship land. Curious, she goes to investigate, and ensure that it’s not the horrible aliens that originally kidnapped the human women, before she reports it to Vektal and the rest of the tribe.

So imagine her delight when a tall, handsome, sa-khui male emerges from the ship! And even more so when she starts resonating to him.

It’s a bit of a struggle at first as they don’t speak the same language, but once he downloads her dialect to his aural implants, they’re off to the races.

One small problem: he doesn’t want to stay, and she doesn’t want to leave. Can they survive only having each other for a few days?

I get that Mardok had serious PTSD about being left behind, but it seemed incredibly selfish that he wanted to rip Farli away from everyone and everything she loved because he perceived staying to be the same as being abandoned. Stranded. Especially when he had no family or loved ones waiting for him at home.

But even though he didn’t have a khui, and he didn’t understand or truly believe in resonance at first, his fierce protectiveness, and possessiveness of Farli right from the get go was hot.

Also learning a bit more about alien…anatomy…was interesting!

I liked how his people and entire culture seemed to be much more in line with humanity. Albeit some of the worst parts: greed, war, selfishness. But the piercings, tattoos, city life, and thoughts of beach holidays? Very human-like if you ask me. His way of speaking was also a lot more human. More conversational, more abbreviations and even swearing, compared to the almost formal way the sa-khui speak. No abbreviations or contractions in sight.

Total side note, I just need to say at this point though: Chompy! IFYKYK

And keffing hell Bek! Can’t wait to see how that scenario pans out.

I adore Farli, and Mardok realizes her greatness so yay! He has to make a choice between leaving on his spaceship or staying with Farli and I gotta say... he made the right choice :D
