The history of the Targaryen dynasty is fascinating!! Learning about the origin of the iron throne, the power of the dragons, and the fractures within the house. However, as it is told from a Maesters perspective- it is very “event” based without the dialogue and insight into the conversations occurring on both sides.

Also, i read this because of watching house of dragon so i was most interested Rhynearas era. The book gave me such a greater appreciation of the show as the depths of all the friendships and relationships are not necessarily discussed by a maester.

But safe to say i am obsessed with the Targaryen family (don’t come at me lol)

Why does he refuse to finish a series? Here I thought this would be a one and done, giving me closure. Someone better call me their sweet summer child.

Overall, not bad. Good at setting the stage for many stories and a more engaging answer to Tolkien’s iterations of writing than Martin’s past works, if you’ll allow me:

Tales of Dunk and Egg = The Hobbit
A Song of Ice and Fire = The Lord of the Rings
Fire and Blood = Silmarillion (spare me the Tolkien didn’t write it nonsense, Martin isn’t going to finish any of these, so the comparison stands).

In the above regard, Fire and Blood is a victory. A bit after the climax, it does begin to lag a bit, “Lord Such and Such slew Knight Sexual Innuendo and this caused Lords Not Important and Castellans Even Less Important to call their banners and assemble at World-Building-Bulletpoint-To-Be-Referenced-In-Later-Material,” and so on. But he does find his pace again and bring things to a satisfactory (hopefully for the moment) close.
