This was so slow. And when we get to the part where the bad guy dies, it’s totally underwritten. We didn’t get that vengeance for it. I didn’t read the first book because I didn’t realize it was a series when I got it on KU but I didn’t feel like I needed to read the first book to understand because it still puts the puzzle together in this book to provide backstory. Though the first books story sounds like it would have been a better plot.
I’m not sure why I didn’t hop right into this after reading the first book. Lisa’s stories truly grab you and pull you in quickly. This one even faster than the first book. I love how each chapter tells a different story in the timeline about these families and how the author pulls them all together. And of course, Henry is still raring to go.
Can’t wait for my next Lisa Jewell book!

Nowhere near as good as the original but glad I read it.
While The Family Upstairs is one of my favorite books and Lisa Jewell is one of my absolute favorite authors, something about this just did not click with me. I found most of it kind of boring. It rarely ever takes me so long to finish a book. Now that I’m finished with it I’m trying to figure out what the point of the sequel was… the main reason why it /felt/ like it needed a sequel was only briefly touched on at the end?? Idk. I was glad to finally be done with this honestly.
