You know exactly what you're getting into with this one from the word go, but who's to say that's a bad thing?

Did I still feel giddy when Taylor got the boy? Sure. Did I still cry my way through the last 50 pages or so? Of course. And did I see it all coming from a mile away? Obviously. But it does the trick if that's what you're looking for!

This was a cute book. I didn't hate it but I didn't really love it either. It was quite long but the summer vibes were pretty good and the romance was lowkey cringe and a bit lame but the book made me cry so I can't hate it.
However, I'm so tired of the trope where it is like omg what happened 10 years ago that we cant speak even though wow this boy is so hot, and it's either the miscommunication trope or the girl has anxious avoidant attachment style. It's so overdone and all romance books are so tropey that I don't care anymore, I'm done reading them.
This book was cute though I'd say read it if you're looking for a beach read or smth.

Going into this book, I was expecting the main focus to be on young, summer love. I was surprised to see the main focus was on father-daughter relationship. This book was beautiful, emotional, and heart breaking. You know from the beginning that the dad is going to die. However, the dad is such a main character that you can’t help to have some hope for him. When he passes, you’re not surprised, yet so heart broken. I definitely sobbed. This book was beautifully written and if anyone is wanting to read about grief, this would be a great one for you.

My rating for this book is so high because it made me cry. I lost my aunt to cancer a few years ago and the details were too real and close to reality.
I'd say the plot is very typical for ya and the MC didn't really grow at all.
If you like this type of beach house story I'd recommend The Summer I Turned Pretty series by Jenny Han. This series was also written during a different time so there are still cringy moments, but I find Jenny Han to be a better writer. TW The Jenny Han series also includes the death of a parent but doesn't go into as much detail as Second Chance Summer.
