My rating for this book is so high because it made me cry. I lost my aunt to cancer a few years ago and the details were too real and close to reality.
I'd say the plot is very typical for ya and the MC didn't really grow at all.
If you like this type of beach house story I'd recommend The Summer I Turned Pretty series by Jenny Han. This series was also written during a different time so there are still cringy moments, but I find Jenny Han to be a better writer. TW The Jenny Han series also includes the death of a parent but doesn't go into as much detail as Second Chance Summer.

This book had me sobbing. This was a reread for me and I think I enjoyed it and related to it more this time around. This is about grief but it also is about growing up and changing. I also just really appreciated all the different relationships and the growth that developed.
