Started August 30th, 2013.
Bought this together with the 2nd and 3d book in the series. Hopefully not in vain.
Not bad, but too predictable, no real twists.
Very good descriptions of torture, but somehow it all left me unimpressed.
Nice location, not the usual ones like NYC, LA, SF, Washington DC etc. : Portland.
Something is missing, I am not sure what.
But a good book to start a series, will read the next one [b:Sweetheart|2983654|Sweetheart (Gretchen Lowell, #2)|Chelsea Cain|http://d202m5krfqbpi5.cloudfront.net/books/1311994924s/2983654.jpg|3014061] starting now.
So, only 4 Stars, as I think there are better books about serial killers.

I didn’t love it, but I didn’t hate it.
I didn’t care for the present day case and would have much preferred the Gretchen story for the entire book. Archie was also super hard to connect to.

I haven't read a book of this nature for a while and enjoyed it quite a bit. A female killer was a different spin on the story. But one I found out who the killer was, I was done with the book, even though there was still a chapter or two left.

My first experience with Chelsea Cain and her Gretchen Lowell series. I have been eagerly anticipating this book and the entire series for some time. I can’t believe it has taken me this long to get to it.
Although a little slow to start and adjusting to new and unfamiliar characters, it didn’t take long for the story to develop and become hooked.
Archie Sheridan spent ten years hunting one serial killer before falling into her grasp. Now he’s trying to find himself amongst the wreck she made of his life by searching for a new killer targeting young girls. He is shadowed by a local writer, profiling his comeback and searching for the same answers Archie hasn’t ever found.
I’m looking forward to picking up Sweetheart and Evil at Heart. The latter has been waiting on my shelf for six months and came as an early reviewer book.
