Dawn Study by Maria V. Snyder

Dawn Study is the final book in the Chronicles of Ixia series, and one I have been eager but also reluctant to read. The characters inside the pages of these books have become more than characters to me, and I'm finding it really hard to say goodbye to them. Dawn Study is full of adventure, and secrets, and that just the first few chapters. It's eventually brings all the strands of the different stories together as we finally come to the end point, but not before one last adventure is had

Ari and Janco are being called back from their investigation into the Theobroma and Curare manufacturing to aid Valek, who has no option but to take a back seat in a new thread of the story, unhappy with Yelenas decision to journey with Cahil. We also see some old faces as they all play an important role in this last book, Heli, Kade, Zohav, Zethan, Opal, Devlen, Teegan, and Reema to name a few.

Dawn Study is the most tense book from this series. The happy ending that everybody wants hangs in the balance, one wrong more or thought could tip that balance into the enemies hands. Everybody takes risk after risk, in order to see good prevail, even if it means putting thier own life in jeopardy. However, with Ari and Janco around you can guarantee they will get up to thier usual antics.

"Oh, yeah." All his annoyance disappeared. "No problem. I know you'll want to take a closer look. It's irresistible, like candy and babies."
"I know I'm going to regret asking this, but you find candy and babies irresistible?" Ari asked.
"Hell no. They're both sticky."
His partner waited.
"Some people find them irresistible. And, you know…" Janco waved his hand. "They're easy to steal…or something like that."
"I was right."
"About what?"
"I regret asking that question."

One person who really changed my mind was Onora. She has become more than 'Little Miss Assassin' as we see a different, kinder side to her. The tasks she completes and risks she takes were some I didn't believe she would ever be capable off, and I loved her overprotectiveness towards Yelena.

Dawn Study wouldn't be complete without Reema. I love that we have seen her grow through this series, becoming older, wiser, and a lot more stubborn. She is definitely Opal and Devlen's child, no matter her birth.

"What about Reema?" Janco asked.
"She coming with us."
"Woo-hoo!" Reema said. When they all looked over at her, she slapped a card down. "I win!"
Smooth recovery. Janco'd been right. Rabbit ears.

Dawn Study is a book I have thoroughly enjoyed. This series has been one my auto buy list once I first found it. It consistently draws me in and has me invested in every way for the characters. This is a perfect end to this current series and characters, but I know I would definitely buy any other possible future book in this series if more were to be written....maybe featuring Reema and her brother, and the young 'recruits'.

Final Verdict
Buy this book!!!!!!
Read this book!!!!

I really didn’t want this series to end. I do feel the ending was rushed a little but as my favourite series I had to give the last book a 5 star. I really wish I could just keep reading narratives written within the study series realm.

Dawn Study was a step up for the previous book. Even though I'm still not a huge fan of everyone going on their own different paths just to end up in the same place towards the end of the book. I will, however, say that I was very happy that a certain someone didn't survive. As for the other person who on my radar.. I guess I can be somewhat okay with him realizing what he did was wrong.

Seems too good be true.. but for right now he can live. I guess.

Other than that, Yelene being a pregnant muggle didn't really do much for me. I honestly liked the girl because of her powers so her being normal was just meh to me. Then there's Valek, who is mister magical now, and I was kind of intrigued by all of that but I would have been fine with Yelene getting her powers back over him having any.

I could be in the minority though.

In the end, the little epilogue was kind of cute and now I'm determined to devour the little novella after this. Just because I want to see how they are taking on the parenting role.

This has been such a journey for me... with ups and downs. It saddens me that this last book is one of the down sides of the journey. I really tried to like it but, even though the book before got me to the point I never thought possible - me liking Valek and Yelena as a couple and even just Yelena as a character - this book kind of ruined all that.
The story wasn't a catchy one and I found myself bored while reading it. The romantic scenes - which were often happening - were so weird. I mean...every time they met, or got a bit of time, they did it. I would of understood it if the book was an adult book (which, I think should of been the case of this series - with Yelena 27 and Valek in his 40's) and the scenes were described a bit more. But the scenes were short and unnecessary. I think the story would of been better if all these scenes were divided between different couples, if Snyder explored more relationships between the characters of this book. One of those was Onora and Janco - I think there was something there worth more space in the book :).
All in all, I don't regret reading this series.

Thanks to Netgalley and HQ for giving me this book to review.

Dawn Study is the brilliant final novel in the Soulfinders series, which is well written and action-packed but a bit slow. I also found it a bit repetitive and I did not fear that the main characters were ever in danger.

Yelena disappointed me a bit with her lack of trust and being self-destructive despite being pregnant. Valek is feeling very protective of Yelena and I felt it changed him from the stealthy and calculating Valek we know and love.

The ending was bittersweet as it is the last book in the Sitian and Ixain world. I would recommend Dawn Study to fans of Maria’s previous Study and Glass books.

There's just something about the anticipation of the final book in a beloved series. I was so excited to get Dawn Study and start reading it, but when it finally came out, I was super nervous to start it. I didn't want my adventures with these wonderful characters to end! The Study Series is my absolute favorite series and Valek and Yelena are my absolute favorite book characters ever, so I was afraid that my expectations were so high for this book that there was no way I'd be satisfied with the ending. I had no need to worry. I'm not going to say much and spoil something, so I'll end by saying, it was amazing and everything I'd hoped it would be and more! If you've ever been a fan of this series, go pick up a copy!
