Well feck me…we got another gem of a book in the Fever series that has pretty much become the main highlight of my book-related 2020. It’s filled with nail-biting antics and plenty of unpredictable danger, and Karen really masterfully drags it all out to the point of insanity, but one thing is certain: she knows how to drag you in and pique your interest!

The plot somehow continues to thicken even further into the storyline; the world gets richer and darker, the characters continue to grow and develop, the relationships either become stronger or burn to the ground, more myth and lore is explored, and you continue to ask yourself: “What can happen next?” along with “How can things get any worse?”

Without going too into the details of this book, I can say we get to see a couple things happen: What happened to Fiona, Derek O’Bannion, Inspector Jayne, Rowena and the other Sidhe-Seers in the Abbey, Darroc shocks us with some plot-altering confessions and backstory with the history of the Seelie and Unseelie Courts, you meet Ryodan, you enter the “Hall of Days,” you learn who Mac’s mother was, where Christian ended up, and even what “IYD” on Mac’s phone means!

Overall, I loved the book despite how we yet again get the same results of only getting some answers without revealing too much added to plenty more questions, and it being already fourth effing books in. I’m so torn by how well Karen slowly drags it all out in a way that's frustrating but still satisfying enough to keep you reading and find out what all the answers are.

Thanks for Reading!

Trigger warning for rape...

I was shocked by the ending of the previous book. The direction this book went was unbelievable and not in a good way. I have not liked Mac and Barrons together since book 1 but the author somehow wants them to have sexual tension and end up together so okayyy.....

There is so much I dislike about this series but am still reading because of the many loose ends to the plot the author purposely left out since book 1.

I do not think it is decent to structure Mac and Barrons relationship going to the next level as a result of her gang rape. I thought this was a particularly disgusting and low way to progress their intimacy since they have not had sex at all and the tension is high.

It seems very precarious to send the message that the way to "save" a rape victim is to throw more sex into the mix. I have never read a book that advocated this.

Maybe some readers will argue that this is fiction and Mac's case is different...she became sexually addicted after the rape, Barrons is someone who cares for her and takes care of her.

Yada yada yada...I don't care, books and media give us examples on how we should behave and aspire to. I felt it just too convenient that the world is in chaos and Mac and Barrons have this sex marathon fest and boom! Mac is immune to the fae's powers, stronger and practically a bad ass. No, nope, no that feels like pulling a cheat card.

At least, I got more information and some questions answered. I liked the developement of the relationship between Mac and Dani, finding out about Mac's heritage and seeing the different worlds that the Silvers lead to. Only to have another cliffhanger that made me roll my eyes.

Honestly, the developements in this story are so ridiculous it seems like the author just throws in whatever comes to mind. Then there is that inteview the author creates to try and figure out what Barrons is and it was pointless except to show that characters can take a life of their own.

This series took too long to warm up and even now it is only lukewarm. I do not know of it is the bad writing, plot or characters or all of it. I want to know what happens in the end but I would not recommend this to anyone.

I can't remember the last time I read a book in a 24 hour period. I'm really loving this series. Since the third book in the series it's been pretty compelling, not that the first two weren't good, but I feel as if they're getting crackier and crackier. Must read the next one.

Okay, okay, okay, okay, okay. I think this might be my favourite so far in the Fever series.

Spoils. Spoils, spoils, spoils, spoils, spoils.

I know a lot of people have an issue with the beginning of Dreamfever. A lot? Some. Some people have an issue with it. I only read a couple of other reviews briefly. Most of the issue stems from the fact that Barrons essentially uses rape to “cure” Mac from being a pri-ya (human addicted to fae sex). Those that are upset argue that, given Moning is the author, she could have chosen anything to cure Mac, and this is the way she chose. But I think it was alright. It wasn’t just tossed into the story, it had a purpose for furthering the story.

Mostly it made Mac and Barrons deal with some feelings (or show some feelings) that they otherwise wouldn’t. Which was fun to watch up until Mac started denying the feelings and we went right back to pretending neither of them wanted to screw the other. Except when Barrons made smart-ass remarks to her about their time together. Which I feel was somewhat alright, but this actually upset me more than the rape itself. She had no control and yet he’s tossing it back in her face to embarrass her or get the upper hand. I’d have smacked the shit out of him.

Spoils over.

I did like how we got a lot more of the fae backstory in this one. I feel like we finally know, more or less, what is going on. Except with the book. But we’re starting to understand the history of why things are happening the way they are, which is great. Not a fan of Rowena and that whole ganging being a bigger part in this, but it is what it is.

I’m nervous to continue reading because I know some things that happen that I am not looking forward to. But we shall see.

She certainly knows how to write a cliffhanger...
