I was really thinking I was able to work with the series and I could move on from the highly questionable things throughout the series so far.
I already had icks over parts in the previous books. Thought I could over look all the flaws of this series cause it “will get better.” I don’t get why so many people were recommending this series, at least give some trigger warnings.
After the first book I tried to shift my expectations and just not take it seriously. But the sexism, sexual assault, and abuse, seriously wtf it wasn’t necessary. Take all of it out and the series would fine, better even.
There are so many questionable things said throughout this entire series consistently.
After Mac she was gang raped, to get her back to normal Barrons essentially rapes her “for her own good” *vomit* when she is not of sound mind. Apparently it was the only way to bring Mac to back to her senses. Then he throws it back in her face afterward. He literally threatened to rape her once. Why is everyone downplaying what happened to her and moving on quickly over what happened. Like it’s all okay be cause she’s “stronger” now. Fuck off.
I wanted growth in Mac’s character, just not in this way thank you very much.
At least when she came back to her senses Mac recognized what has been done with her. Sad that that was the bare minimum. But then she did nothing about it, it’s all back to normal! V’lane and Barrons disgust me, the vast majority of men in this series do.
And please let’s not sexualize children. Dani is only 13 keep it in your pants.
There is no romance or actual spice, even though the whole story in centered around sex and mystery. The main reason I started this and I got neither. The lack there of consent ruined a lot for me.
I don’t know how oblivious I was. I just really wished I was warned about everything so I would have approached this in a different way or not at all. Continuing the story, makes me feel really icky and I can’t really enjoy the small things I had liked before.
I really feel like I just wasted so much of my time and energy. I didn’t cared that much for the plot beforehand and I didn’t bother to pay attention to it anymore.
This beginning of this book was the tipping point for me.
I just need to get through this and move on.
I will update this later, can’t remember the last time I read a series so fast but this slow burn and angst is literally killing me please give me something I am BEGGING
I’ve been powering through these books because I enjoy the world so much, however I’ve been listening to the audiobooks and since the change of the female narrator I feel like this one took me so much longer to get through. I didn’t care for the female narrator. She was almost whiny sounding verses Joyce Bean who had perfect southern sass to her words. Overall the plot was perfect and I’m looking forward to the next stop in this series.
Another devastating cliffhanger. Good thing the last book is already out. Addictive series.
I could literally pass away I cannot imagine the agony of waiting for these books to come out.

Okay. I’m not as angry after reading Dreamfever as I was with Faefever. Maybe knowing there was a cliffhanger made it easier to deal with (or maybe because I know I have Shadowfever next to me right now and that I’ll pick it up as soon as I finish writing and scheduling this review) because what it hints at is epic. I was curious how Mac would come back from what happened to her in Faefever. The first part of Dreamfever was tough for me to get through; this feeling was more due to the narration than the story itself. Once I hit 25% or so, I got pulled so deeply into the story that I had to force myself to put it down so that I could go to bed.
That’s great, right? Well kinda. The story lagged for me the next day when I picked it back up. Don’t get me wrong, I really like black Mac and that there is serious kicking butt and other changes involved with it all, but there was an element of absurdity in where the story was taken that my interest waned. However, Dreamfever is definitely better than the previous two books, and I am thankful the series is finally starting to go somewhere, or I would really be pissed off.
One aspect that I actually really enjoyed was the philosophical bits and pieces that float around this series. They aren’t obvious and are usually wrapped up in Barrons’ “lessons” but occasionally Mac pulls something out too, and I can’t help but think how right they are. Things like how the media desensitizes us, and how we use what we’ve seen on TV as a guide for life.

This series just gives and keeps giving EVERYTHING I love and need in books.
I keep thinking that there’s no way it can get any more interesting and exciting, but KMM proves me wrong each time.
I’m literally in love with Barrons, as simply as it can be put. He’s one of my favorite characters of alllll time. Mac is also awesome.
I eagerly devoured every detail, scene, and character in this book. I love how they all are complex and have flaws. I hate a perfect main character.
The ending just about killed me. If you know what I’m talking about, and it’s who I think it is, it BETTER FUCKING NOT BE.
