i started crying at page 54 and then i just couldn’t stop everything hosseini writes is utterly beautiful. i loved all the stories and how they wove into one another, i loved the exploration of youth and age and family and love. i can’t get over the way everything intertwines i feel like i’ve been given a gift but i’ve also been devastated.
the bit with adel was so well done but i feel is slightly lost just because of the magnitude of the main stories like you read it from the child’s perspective but you recognise the truth that his father’s a war criminal and his acceptance of his own acceptance of it if that makes sense it was absolutely agonising
i loved everything about it i feel like rereading it again immediately i just can’t stop thinking about it. just amazing and sensitive and brutal and everything under the sun i want to say thank u to khaled hosseini for writing this book tbh <3

Wow this book was a rollercoaster and very, very sad….too real almost. Full of Afghan culture, and really goes into social issues discussing wealth, class, displacement, war, tragedy…We see so many stories of different characters scattered throughout the book, some briefly hopeful and others just about the reality and inequality or the missing strings to ones life together in a neat bow. I feel sorry for all of the characters, especially dear hopeful, traumatised and strong Abdullah. I just wish, for my mental health at least, it ended on a slightest more joyous note.
