phenomenal read š©š the themes of colonialism and anti-imperialism heavily entwined with the magic of dragons and gods spin a riveting and page turning tale. Iām absolutely obsessed.

This was really good! The writing was probably the weakest part feeling a little YA and debut at times and the character relationships were not explored as deeply as they should have been- especially Elara's relationship with the Langlish. I thought the history the main characters had with each other, and the war they fought 5 years previously was an interesting way to get to know these characters and what they had been through. I also liked the sibling relationship at the center. Although this isn't a completely new-feeling world, the dragons etc definitely feel similar to other YA fantasies, I enjoyed this basically all the way through and am excited to read the second one, especially as Cole matures as an author.
