Honestly, I expect series to get worse over time. This one didn't start off very well- lots of unnecessary repetition and forced exposition for first time readers (seriously, what kind of psychopath reads the seventh book in a series first?) but the quality is fairly stable across the series despite that. Selected new characters help keep things fresh, for sure, although Catherine could have used more characterization (high hopes for the next installment). Good world building and internal logic were sustained. On to the next!

I have genuinely loved this series. Every book is a brilliantly extended version of the previous one, it's an insight into the inner workings of yet another great writer.

I love the Irene, she's a brilliant character. She's a feisty, brave, fireball of a woman and she's a kick-ass main character. All of the characters are cleverly written in this series but she is definitely my favourite and has been throughout.

I have said in previous reviews of books in this series that the Narrator also makes the story come alive, she's fabulous. I am following up on other books she may have narrated because when you find a good Narrator you want to hear more.

Same pacing issues as every other book, but unfortunately, the beginning 75% wasn't very compelling and the plot twist was so obvious, saw it from book 1 and having the same bad guys again? Over it. The epilogue was quite intriguing though and I'm interested to see what will happen next
