In Finlay Donavon Knocks Em Dead we return to to Finlay about a month after the events In book one. Finlay is terrified to have the children spend time with Stephen after finding out that someone has taken out a hit on him.  Finlay puts all of her focus into trying to find out who hates Stephen enough to want him dead. Unfortunately the list is pretty long and as she tries to stay under the police radar she ends up going deeper and deeper down the rabbit hole, uncovering deep secret best left undug.

I actually liked this one slightly more than the first. I really liked the holiday family time happening on the outskirts of Finlays investigation. As always Finlay jumps the gun and makes really poor choices. But they work out because everyone sees her as a completely unthreatening white woman. And honestly I love that for her. I think I will read at least one more book in the series before the shtick stops being entertaining.

This one was pretty good, but not as good as the first book in the series. I still very much enjoyed Finlay and Vero.

I started this book while running my half marathon, and while I thought I could stay focused on the book for this run, I was mistaken haha. While I remember most of it, I definitely wasn’t as immersed in the book as I’d hoped to be and thus found myself needing a refresher to move on the next time I listened to the audiobook. Still a fun, quick mystery and I’m excited for the next book in the series
