This is fun! A Robin Hood retelling set in twelfth-century Palestine and the surrounding areas (Jerusalem and Jaffa are the most developed settings) with Muslim MCs and a diverse cast of supporting characters. Fun hijinks and considerate, ethical depiction of history behind it. Pretty fast-paced and action-packed, sapphic romance on the sidelines, good narration in the audiobook. This is the first of the "remixed" series and I'm intrigued for sure. I love this reclaiming and re-imagining of dusty old stories, breathing new life and representation into them.

This book is a nice read. I liked the characters and it was easy to follow despite how many there were. The writing was smotth and easy to read, it didn't even feel like the book had that many pages. The reason I'm not giving it more stars is because it felt like it lacked a little depth, to me? Not in the themes itself, but I didn't feel like I got to know the characters much or like their bond had time to develop. It was like found family... but lacked the feeling of family. Still an entertaining read.

History always has at least two sides, the one by the perceived “victors” and the one of the “losers.” But there’s also the truth of those in between. Aminah Mae Safi does a wonderful job of reinventing the well respected, almost beloved legend of Robin Hood to show the people that were affected by the Crusades but wasn’t a part of either side. Funny, action- packed plot that shows the humanity that is touched by war, but all it needs is someone to care.

This was a fun read and I loved the new perspective on the Crusades and Robin Hood era. There were a few moments that felt oddly paced, but overall I really enjoyed the characters and the story. The representation was excellent too.
