In Chemistry for Breakfast, we follow Dr. Mai Thi Nguyen-Kim as she describes the chemistry of every day situations. What happens to your brain when your alarm suddenly wakes you up? How does toothpaste get your teeth clean? What really causes that BO scent from your co-worker (because let's admit it, we all know that one person...or are that person...don't be that person)? How does that glass of wine (or 5 glasses, I'm not judging) affect your brain? Nguyen-Kim will give you all the details on those and many other subjects. You don't have to be good at chemistry or even know the basics because the author  does a great job of making it all easy to understand and approachable...which is good since I failed basic chemistry in college...3 times 🤣. This was a well written book with a good balance of humor and science. If you want to know more about Dr. Nguyen-Kim, you can find her channel on YouTube as she continues fighting stereotypes on women in the world of STEM!

DID NOT FINISH: 39%

I was reading this for a book club and enjoyed it, but I don't typically read nonfiction. Now that the club has finished it's unlikely that I'll keep reading.

A fun introduction to the basics of chemistry with examples taken from our daily lives! A lot of it is already known if you're taking chemistry in high school (I just started working on the chemistry of soaps so I loved Mai's simple and clear explanations !) But I discovered so many things about how everything around us works and of course I annoyed my family and friends with every single new facts I learn in this book : taking a coffee with my mom "do you know how coffee makes us more awake ? Well it's because the molecule of...", my friends talking about the upcoming parties: "do you know how alcohol works in our body and how it makes people feel drunk ? Well...", my seat mate in maths : "hey the teacher shouldn't say we're letting the cold enter but rather that the ..."

I'm sorry to my relatives for the monster I turned into while reading this book. I love Sciences and I need to share the things I love (which is why I'm writing this review and using goodreads as a reading diary at this point...)

Definitely recommending it to every single person that's a bit curious about chemistry or want to get a basic start into the world of scientific simplification, I'm considering learning German just to watch the authors videos on YouTube!
