Muy muy buena historia. Y la mirada del Luchi en la portada, super acertada.

I was so excited to read this book. When I pulled it from the library shelf I hesitated for a moment. I mean…600+ pages?? Unfortunately, this book would have been great if it could have been edited down 200-300 pages. Really disappointing because the story is there, but you have to slog through a lot to get to it.

4.5 rounded up for what I assume to be translation issues. It’s been years since I stayed up all night reading a book. The horror is emotional and the warnings shared between the characters and reader. I had some issues following the narrative, but I assess that to either the translation or the format of embedding the reader that did not work in its entirety.

This novel explores the political as well as the relational. The essential component of this book is its illustration of life in Argentina as the essential backdrop of this excellent horror. The characters are troubled and leave you wondering who can truly be trusted. The secure ties of Gasper and his friends is a warm relent from that feeling of mistrust in the adults. At times, there is almost a Stand By Me feeling to their lives together.
I’d have appreciated some resolution re Rossario because it felt like that was missing. I was waiting on a big shock finish but it ended in a neat, conclusive way
