 I really liked this strange and believable survival story, based on a true story. The author writes beautifully about the stark landscape and definitely sets the scene for readers who most likely will be unfamiliar with this particular region. Even without the dystopic/survival elements the story would be compelling for those learning about this difficult way of life. The characters were sympathetic and drew on readers compassion, hope and dread over the course of the story. I also enjoyed the elements of surprise as the characters developed and went into the future.
