4.0

Poetry collection by Palauan author Hermana Ramarui, with a mix of poems in English and Palauan. This is a new edition of the collection originally published in 1984, and much of the content is themed around the issues of Palauan independence and the 1979 vote against joining the Federated States of Micronesia. As such, the political issues passionately raised here feel somewhat dated, although the general anticolonial message is still quite relevant.

In addition to the political pieces, there are some more inward-looking poems, and some nice reflections on the nature of teaching and learning. The author puts a lot of emotion into her use of language, and these introspective pieces were the real strength of the collection.
