There was a lot to this book that happened all at once that made the reading experience a bit confusing at times, yet I had fun with the differing perspectives. I wasn't expecting to get Eddie's chapters, and it was a nice touch to put in filler information about his side of things. The ending is ambiguous, yet not a total shock. I don't hate this book, but I don't totally love it either.

Very into twisty reimaginings of classic stories. This was kind of like when I read Rebecca and was like “HEY WAIT IS THIS JANE EYRE?!” (except I knew it was the source material this time). Not the exact same story, but heavily influenced and very fun to pick out parallels! It threw me off a little because not all of the characters are 1:1 with their namesakes (
I did laugh when the dog was named Adele
), but I just thought of them as references/Easter eggs instead of trying to fit them to Bronte’s characters.

so many twists and turns between the MCs making you crave more...definitely didn't want to put this one down!

I didn’t love it. I thought it was far- fetched and not believable. It was a retelling of Jane Eyre, a favorite classic of mine. The characters were so different and they did not function in logical ways. They were unlikable, shallow, horrible people. I did like the switch off between narrators, but not enough to redeem the book. I have had some disappointing reads this year.

Modern update/reimagining of "Jane Eyre". I love "Jane Eyre" and "Wide Sargasso Sea", so I enjoyed another novel in that universe. Didn't enjoy this book as much as "Reckless Girls," the only other Rachel Hawkins book I have read so far.
