4 1/2 stars. Read this in a triptych of focused reading of the three books together (purchased at each book's release). This series develops and builds in strength. A culmination arc still able to be read as a stand alone.

Before I was invited to the Restoration Blog Tour, I hadn’t heard about Angela or the series, but I’m glad I had the opportunity to read the trilogy! The series was very well written and I love that she’s an Australian author who set the books in Brisbane! I’m located near Brisbane, but not close enough that I’m super familiar with it, so I wasn’t too sure about the accuracy. However, I enjoyed it whenever a place was mentioned and I had a rough idea of where it was because so many books are set in the US or Europe and I’m quite unfamiliar with those places haha.

The overall storyline was very good, the plot kept me on my toes and I found it difficult to put the book down! Occasionally the pacing felt a little bit too fast, but it didn’t bother me too much. I was so immersed in the world Angela created and reading the series felt very effortless and easy. There seemed to be a lot of sub-plots to the main plot, but I was very happy with how they all connected together in the end. The ending was a bit too abrupt for my liking though, I felt that Angela had spent so much time setting up the story and going through the sub-plots that it felt lacking when it came to the final ending of the story.

There were so many characters! I was surprised to see that they had quite a good depth to them for the amount of characters that make an appearance. Some of the characters did have relatively similar names, so I would get a tiny bit confused, but overall not a major problem. I loved how strong the women in this series were! Verity was the epitome of a badass, and her sassy sharpness made me laugh a few times. I loved how she looked after her friends and family, and she was a very likeable character!

Overall I recommend this book if you’re looking for a witty, well-developed adult-level fantasy series written by an Australian author! I wish more people had read the series, as I truly felt like it was a lesser-known gem of a trilogy.

Arc received by Netgallery in exchange for honest review
9/10

Okay, so I have taken a day (or three) to collect my thoughts for this review. I’ve been waiting for this book for what feels like forever, and full disclosure, she is a friend of a friend.

This is not actually going to influence my review, it’s juat going to make lunch that much more awkward when said friend decides to tell me that we’re eating lunch in “Angela’s favourite Chinese place” and I make weird fan girl noises.

Disclosure disclosed, OH EM GEE!

I loved Vigil and Corpselight, and I unashamedly recommend them to all urban fantasy/ kick ass protagonist readers in my book store.

However....have you ever had that moment with an author where you realise that they have been laying the seeds, the throwaway lines, the unimportant mentions, the minor characters just so that they could make them all an integral part of a gigantic, amazing, mind-blowing stupendous storyline that will culminate in ways you never dreamed of? No?

Well, you’re about to.

I am so glad that Verity Fassbinder and her world of Weyrd have become a part of my life. 9/10 and the only reason for that is that this is not the complete, total, satisfying finale due to those teasers for future story lines which also means YAY more Verity Weyrdness.

I have previously reviewed Corpselight, the second book in this series (here), and also interviewed Angela Slatter about her Verity Fassbinder books (here), so I have shown my love of these books already, but please allow me to wax lyrical once more, just for a little while.

Slatter manages to create such fantastic characters, and I think that is what draws me back into her books every single time. Verity in particular is such a magnificent character - strong (not just her Weyrd strength, but also how she tries to handle things head on, even when she knows it's going to painful), witty, and just flipping awesome, I can't help but love her. There are other characters that I adore, even when they are...morally questionable. Slatter just creates characters that are so believable - Weyrd abilities or not.

The detective work that Verity needs to do in this book is also so interesting - Slatter manages to give enough info so that the reader has theories, but not enough to properly figure it all out - the reveals in this book are just intense. And one of the biggest reveals of all for me, that I think is fine to share, is that there are more books in this series. I was still thinking this was a trilogy, but with some serious unanswered questions, I am just as eager to get my hands on the next book as I was to get my hands on this one.

I cannot really say anything else without starting to give things away, so let me just say: read these books. They are awesome.

Restoration is the thrilling third book about Verity Fassbinder, and this time, Slatter throws us right into a story about angels, strange artifacts, old scores that need to be settled, and a cast of wonderfully weyrd, frightening, and entertaining characters. The story is fast-paced and gripping, with plenty of Verity's trademark hilarious and snappy dialogue (seriously, won't somebody film these books already? they'd make an awesome series/movie).

There is danger at every turn for Verity and her family, and I love how the story delves deep into Verity's past, and the past of the Weyrd community, as the story plays out. There are some really satisfying payoffs here as we follow Verity on her quest to keep her friends and family safe, and solve an Angelic mystery.

As always, Slatter has a knack for creating people you care about, at this point, I'd follow Verity Fassbinder anywhere. I can only hope more books are in the offing!

I am delighted to once again be part of the blog tour for a new Verity Fassbinder adventure. Sadly this is the last in the current series :( I have absolutely devoured these books and recommended them every chance I can. Angela Slatter's writing is so smart, so witty and so much fun. Her characters are so wonderful to spend time with and the world of the Weyrd folks of Brisneyland is just spectacular. This is urban fantasy with thrills, spills, adventure, horror, romance, battles between good and evil and a kick ass heroine who just doesn't quit. In this latest installment of Verity's adventures she is tasked with helping the Guardian to recover two lost treasures, a bargain she struck to save her family. To keep them safe Verity has to send her family away and of course she misses them like crazy especially baby Maisie. Without the help of the Weyrd council and her former allies Verity is aided by Joyce the kitsune assassin. Can former enemies really work together? If anyone can make that work Verity can. She's going to have to unravel this mystery before the Guardian comes for her if she wants to keep her family and friends safe and she's going to have to do it fast because there's another problem going on as her old ally Police Inspector McIntyre wants her help in discovering why the bodies of women who disappeared decades ago start turning up dead and McIntyre suspects something Weyrd is going on. I loved this book. I read it in one sitting, just dying to know what happened next and I am going to miss Verity and her family. This is perfect for fans of Urban Fantasy; like Ben Aaronovitch, Patricia Briggs, Liz de Jager, Cassandra Clare etc and it's streets ahead of a great deal of the urban fantasy that's out there. I can't wait to see what Angela Slatter does next. Follow the blog tour, details below.

Having enjoyed both the first and second book in the 'Verity Fassbinder' series (Vigil and Corpselight) I couldn't wait to dedicate some time to 'Restoration'. It most certainly lived up to my high expectations and once again Slatter's writing is beautiful. There is something for everyone in this wonderful addition to the series.

I was instantly drawn into the story and my love affair with Verity continued the whole way through. We are landed right into the middle of the action and once again sassy Ms Fassbinder is in trouble! She had had to quit her job as a member of the Wyerd Council and is now employed by a broken and demented archangel, and has kitsune assassin, Joyce, watching her every move. Danger lurks at every turn and from various sources. V must ultimately face her fears whilst keeping her family safe from harm. Will it be possible to keep all that is precious to her safe? Or will her world crumble before her very eyes?

This is an enchanting and utterly compelling urban fantasy. Verity is a strong and likeable female who embodies all it means to be a smart and brilliant heroine. Slatter has such a wickedly wild imagination, with storytelling skills that are second-to-none. Her books are disappointingly underrated and it certainly isn't because they're lacking in some way, exactly the opposite in fact. The witty and black humour-filled prose gave me a good giggle which I always appreciate in a book. Literally everything in this story is effortless, there's no doubt in my mind that Slatter is an immensely talented crafter of thrilling, spellbinding feminist fantasy and one of the best in the genre today.

Highly recommended to fans of urban fantasy. The 'Verity Fassbinder' series will particularly appeal to those who love Neil Gaiman's 'American Gods' and Jim Butcher's 'Dresden Files' series.

Many thanks to Jo Fletcher Books for an ARC. I was not required to post a review and all thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.

I got to read an early version of this and it’s a stellar third part of this great urban fantasy set in Brisbane. Get on it!
